Mahindra XEV 9e 5 reasons to buy the electric SUV

The Mahindra XEV 9e serves as the brand’s flagship electric SUV and is priced between Rs 21.90 lakh and Rs 30.50 lakh, both ex-showroom. This all-electric model sits above the BE 6 in the born electric portfolio of Mahindra, and it comes with enhanced interior space, more features and a coupe SUV body style. Here are five reasons why you should consider buying or upgrading to the Mahindra XEV 9e electric vehicle.

    1. Single-charge range

    Up to 656km claimed range

The XEV 9e has two battery pack options: 59kWh and 79kWh. On the Modified Indian Driving Cycle (MIDC), the smaller battery delivers a range of 542km on a single charge, while the larger pack is good for 656km (Mahindra claims over 500km in real-world conditions). From daily office commutes to interstate travel, the XEV 9e is an EV worth considering. With a 175kW DC fast charger, charging from 20 to 80 percent takes just 20 minutes.

    2. Dazzling array of tech

Inside, the most striking feature of the XEV 9e’s cabin is the three-screen setup – driver’s display, central touchscreen and front passenger touchscreen – each measuring 12.3 inches. Other equipment on board includes a 16-speaker 1,400W Harman Kardon sound system with Dolby Atmos, ventilated front seats with electric adjust and memory function, boss mode for the front passenger seat, wireless chargers (front and back), and a panoramic glass roof with LED lights.

    3. Great to drive

The Mahindra SUV delivers a refined driving experience for a large SUV. Thanks to its independent suspension and semi-active dampers, it rides comfortably over rough roads. The steering is light and easy at low speeds, making it effortless to drive in the city, while at higher speeds, there’s added weight that gives a lot of confidence. Its large 19-inch wheels (standard) and well-tuned suspension contribute to a plush ride.

    4. Refinement and performance

    Instant acceleration typical of EVs

With a 79kWh battery and a 286hp RWD motor in the range-topping variant, the XEV 9e delivers impressive performance and refinement, offering instant acceleration. During our XEV 9e review, the 0-100kph run took an impressive 7.2 seconds (as per the onboard timer). It features three drive modes - Range, Everyday, and Race - with ample power even in the mildest setting. A Boost function adds a burst of full power when needed, regardless of the mode. Noise levels inside the cabin are also well controlled. The 9e is also offered with a smaller 59kWh battery pack, which powers a 231hp motor.

    5. Space and comfort

Large door openings and well-padded seats

It’s easy to get inside the XEV 9e due to doors that open 90 degrees. The seats are well-cushioned, and the ones at the front also get ventilation, electric adjust and memory function. The rear seats offer good thigh support and impressive legroom, which can be enhanced by the boss mode function (operated via a manual lever on the front passenger seat). The headroom at the back is adequate for average-sized passengers, but it may be tight for taller ones because of the coupe-SUV roofline.
