The Carens Clavis EV recently went on sale as Kia’s first mass-market EV for India. It’s a direct ICE-to-EV conversion of the Carens Clavis that launched a few months ago, which itself is the facelifted version of the original Carens MPV. With powertrains borrowed from the Hyundai Creta Electric, the Carens Clavis EV sits in a unique space as one of only three all-electric MPVs available in India. If you’re looking to buy a Carens Clavis EV, listed below is everything you need to know about it.

What is the Kia Carens Clavis EV price?

Most affordable three-row EV on sale.

The 2025 Carens Clavis EV price starts at Rs 17.99 lakh for the base HTK+ trim, and extends all the way up to Rs 24.49 lakh for the fully loaded HTX+ Extended Range variant. At this price point, the Carens Clavis EV is the most affordable electric MPV (and three-row EV) you can currently buy in India, with the BYD eMax 7 coming the closest with its Rs 26.90 lakh-29.90 lakh price range.

What is the battery size and range of the Kia Carens Clavis EV?

42kWh and 51.4kWh battery packs.

As mentioned previously, the Carens Clavis EV shares its powertrains with the Creta Electric, so it gets a 42kWh LFP battery in entry-level variants and a 51.4kWh unit in higher trim levels. The Carens Clavis EV 51.4kWh price starts at Rs 22.49 lakh. Both battery packs are mated a single front-mounted electric motor, which outputs 135hp in 42kWh guise and 171hp in the 51.4kWh variants. Torque output is 255Nm for both battery options.

Claimed range stands at up to 490km.

In terms of range, the Carens Clavis EV 42kWh achieves an MIDC-certified 404km and the 51.4kWh configuration manages a claimed 490km on a single charge. Kia offers an 8-year or 1,60,000km warranty for the Carens Clavis EV.

How long does it take to charge the Kia Carens Clavis EV?

39 minutes with DC chargers, and as little as 4 hours with AC fast chargers.

The Carens Clavis EV battery can be recharged via 7.4kW and 11kW AC chargers, as well as 100kW DC fast chargers. Using the 11kW AC charger, Kia claims a 10-100 percent charge in 4 hours for the 42kWh battery and 4.75 hours for the 51.4kWh unit. 100kW DC fast charging takes just 39 mins for a 10-80 percent charge on both batteries.

What features do you get in the Kia Carens Clavis EV?

Features list mirrors ICE counterpart.

Kia has retained the ICE-powered Carens Clavis’ features set for the Carens Clavis EV, so you get creature comforts like a panoramic sunroof, a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, a powered driver’s seat, an 8-speaker Bose sound system, a wireless charger, powered Boss mode, cabin air purifier, ventilated front seats, V2L (vehicle-to-load) functionality, connected car tech, and more.

On the safety front, as standard, the Carens Clavis EV features six airbags, traction control, ESC, ABS with EBD, hill assist, front and rear disc brakes, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and a virtual engine sound system to alert pedestrians. Level 2 ADAS and a 360-degree camera join the Carens Clavis EV’s safety suite in higher variants.

How many seats are in the Kia Carens Clavis EV?

Only gets a 7-seat layout.

The Carens Clavis EV is available as a 7-seater only, even though its ICE counterpart offers a 6-seat layout with captain seats in the second row in the top-spec variants. In our Carens Clavis EV review, we noted that the reclinable middle row seats are quite comfortable and roomy, and access to the third row is made easy thanks to the one-touch electric tumble function. The third row seats have adequate space for two average-sized adults.

Should you buy Kia Carens Clavis EV or BYD eMax 7?

eMax 7 is larger, more powerful, has greater range and offers a 6-seat layout.

Though the Carens Clavis EV has a definite price advantage over the eMax 7, the BYD MPV does have the edge when it comes to overall size (greater length and wheelbase) and the option of a 6-seat layout with second row captain seats. Moreover, the eMax 7 offers larger battery options – 55.4kWh and 71.8kWh – than the Carens Clavis EV, has more range, and develops more power and torque.

It’s worth noting, though, that the price difference of up to Rs 8.90 lakh between the Carens Clavis EV and the eMax 7 may not justify the latter’s spec advantages to many buyers. There’s also the matter of Kia having a much more ubiquitous retail and service network than BYD, which will likely be a major consideration for buyers who don’t reside in metropolitan areas.
