Tata Punch accounts for over one-third of brand's total sales

Tata Punch 6 lakh production milestone

The Tata Punch has achieved its 6 lakh production milestone today, less than four years after the compact SUV launched. This milestone, along with the announcement that the Punch accounts for 36 percent of Tata cars sold, underlines the success of the model. It should be noted that Tata counts the Punch EV as a part of the Punch line-up, and the production and sales figures include the ICE and all-electric versions.

Tata Punch production milestones

Punch holds 38 percent market share in the sub-compact segment.

Launched in October 2021, the Tata Punch hit the 1 lakh production mark in August 2022. Then, in 2023, the Punch accomplished its 2 lakh (May) and 3 lakh (December) milestones. The 4 lakh and 5 lakh production milestones were achieved in July 2024 and January 2025, respectively. The Punch also achieved its 5 lakh sales milestone in January this year. Tata claims that the Punch holds a 38 percent market share in the sub-compact segment (in FY2025), which includes rivals like the Hyundai Exter, and registered a 15 percent year-on-year increase in sales.

Tata Punch buyer profile

42 percent of Tata Punch buyers are from Tier II cities.

Along with the above announcements, Tata Motors has also revealed details about the Punch’s buyer base. Nearly 70 percent of Tata Punch owners (the petrol and CNG versions) are first-time buyers, and 25 percent of Punch EV buyers are women. While 42 percent of Punch buyers were from Tier II cities, Tier I and Tier III cities accounted for 24 percent and 34 percent, respectively.

The Tata Punch is on sale with a 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine that makes 88hp on petrol and 74hp when running on CNG. In petrol form, the Punch gets 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT options, while the CNG version is manual only. The Punch EV is on offer with two battery options – a 25kWh unit powering an 82hp front motor and a 35kWh pack that powers a 122hp motor. The compact SUV has an MIDC-rated range of up to 365km. Including the all-electric variants, the Tata Punch’s price starts at Rs 6.20 lakh and goes up to Rs 14.44 lakh.
