I have almost finalised buying either the Toyota Hyryder Mild Hybrid S MT or the Toyota Taisor G Turbo MT. Please recommend which one is the better choice.

Go for the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder mild hybrid S MT. The Hyryder is the more complete and well-rounded car here. The mild hybrid system gives you a efficiency advantage in city driving, and the car itself is larger, more spacious and more comfortable for family use. The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine is also reliable and smoother in everyday driving, which makes it easier to live with over the long term. The Taisor G Turbo MT is the more fun-to-drive option with its 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine, but it is a smaller car overall and does not offer the same level of space or comfort. Overall, the Hyryder mild hybrid S MT is the better all-rounder and the car that will make you happier over the long term.

Hello Autocar Team, I would appreciate your expert advice in choosing my second car. Please suggest the top three recommendations under Rs 12 lakh, automatic, and comfortable for a family of five. I previously owned a Fiat Punto Dynamic Diesel. I used it daily for around 70km, plus one outstation trip every month. Now I've relocated to Pune, and my running has reduced substantially to under 500km per month, with occasional trips. My requirements are: Budget: Rs 10-12 lakh on-road (slightly flexible). Type: Automatic family car, comfortable for five adults. Priorities: Value for money, low running and maintenance costs, safety, features, good boot space, reliability, and hassle-free long-term ownership. Given my reduced usage, I'm open to petrol, EV, or CNG as well. Please suggest the best options that would suit my requirements. Looking forward to your guidance.

We'd recommend stretching your budget slightly for the new Maruti Suzuki Brezza VXi Automatic.Although it's priced just above your stated budget of Rs 10-12 lakh on road, the extra spend is justified. The recently launched Brezza brings a more modern package while retaining its proven 1.5-litre petrol engine and smooth automatic gearbox. It comfortably seats five adults, offers good ride quality, generous ground clearance, a practical boot and low maintenance costs. Combined with Maruti Suzuki's extensive service network, it makes for one of the most hassle-free family cars you can own over the long term.If you prefer to stay strictly within budget, the Toyota Taisor S AMT is another sensible option. It offers Toyota's reliable ownership experience, good fuel efficiency and decent space for a small family. The Mahindra XUV 3XO MX2 Pro Automatic is also worth considering if you prioritise performance, although its boot is among the smallest in the segment.

I'm a first-time car buyer looking for an automatic petrol car mainly for city use and occasional long trips. I want modern features like a 360 camera, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, etc. My budget is Rs. 10-12 lakh, but I can stretch it to Rs. 14 lakh if the car is worth it. I had shortlisted the Hyundai i20 Asta variant, but I heard there will be a facelift soon, and Hyundai may launch the Bayon as well. Is it a good time to buy the current i20, or should I wait for the facelift or even the Bayon? Are there any good alternatives like the Venue or Sonet? I am avoiding Maruti Suzuki because I feel the features offered and safety ratings are poor compared to the competition at the same price. Please advise.

You can go ahead and buy the Hyundai i20 Asta IVT now. There's no further facelift planned, and the Bayon-based crossover will be positioned much higher and closer to the Hyundai Creta in price. For mostly city use, the i20's smooth, automatic and light controls make traffic a breeze, and it fits your budget better than most compact SUVs would. You still get six airbags, a big screen, a sunroof and all the everyday comforts, and it’s fine for the odd highway run. However, the i20 doesn’t get a 360 camera, and Android Auto/CarPlay aren't wireless unless you buy a special adapter accessory. If a 360 camera is a must and you want the SUV look, the Hyundai Venue SX(O) DCT or Kia Sonet GTX+ have it, but they’ll sit well past Rs 14 lakh on-road in most cities, and their dual-clutch automatics aren’t as smooth as the i20’s CVT in bumper-to-bumper traffic.Another alternative you could consider is the Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor Turbo Petrol V AT, which gets a punchy but efficient engine, a smooth automatic, and the features you want at around your Rs 14 lakh budget.

Can you please suggest which is the better car: the Toyota Glanza/Taisor or the Maruti Baleno/Fronx? I am a first-time car buyer with a budget of over 10 lakh and would prefer an automatic transmission. Please recommend the best option from this list, or suggest any other cars that I should consider.

For a first-time buyer looking for an automatic in your budget, we would actually pick the Maruti Fronx AMT from your shortlist. It gives you the raised seating position and SUV-like feel that many first-time buyers appreciate, while still being easy to drive, fuel-efficient and inexpensive to maintain. It also feels a bit more special than the Baleno and Glanza. The Baleno AMT and Toyota Glanza AMT are mechanically identical, and if rear seat comfort, ride quality and value for money are your priorities, they remain excellent choices. Between the two, we would lean towards the Glanza because Toyota's warranty packages and ownership experience can be an advantage. The Toyota Taisor is essentially a Fronx underneath, so the choice between the two often comes down to styling preference, dealership experience and the offers available in your city. One car not on your list that is definitely worth considering is the Honda Amaze CVT. The CVT gearbox is smoother than the AMTs in the Maruti and Toyota models. The car is comfortable, reliable and easy to own long term. If you do not specifically need the SUV stance, it is arguably the most refined automatic you can buy around this budget.

I want to buy a family SUV from Volkswagen, Skoda, or Toyota, preferably with good mileage, with a budget of around Rs 12 lakh. This will be my first new car, and I have very little driving experience so far. Please suggest.

Pick the Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor S+ Petrol MT. It sits under your Rs. 12 lakh budget, is fuel efficient, and its easy, no-fuss nature suits low usage and first-time ownership. The simple 1.2 engine is reliable, cheap to maintain and efficient in the city, and the higher seating with good ground clearance makes it family-friendly without feeling big or heavy to drive. It is also easier on the wallet and comes backed by Toyota's widespread service network. The only catch is that it is not as powerful or as solid-feeling as a Skoda Kylaq, which is the alternative you should consider. The Kylaq is more enjoyable to drive, and it comes with a 5-star crash safety rating, but it won't be as fuel efficient or as affordable to maintain as the Toyota Taisor. For your budget and light running, though, the Taisor is the smart pick.
