Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor expert review
The Taisor’s identity comes through its redesigned front end, blending Toyota’s family traits like Hyryder-like DRLs and a Crysta-style grille. The coupe-like stance and connected tail-lamps mirror the Fronx, though the outer and inner tail-light elements don’t quite match. It also gets unique alloy designs.
9
Inside, it's identical to the Fronx – same design, layout, and materials. Still, it feels premium with dual-tone colours and solid ergonomics. The rear seat is spacious and comfortable, featuring three adjustable headrests and three-point seatbelts. However, like Maruti, no rear load sensors mean constant seatbelt warnings.
8
Two engines are available – a 1.2-litre NA petrol (manual & AMT) and a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol (manual & 6-speed auto). The turbo is smooth, responsive, and rev-happy, doing 0-100kph in 11.86s. The auto gearbox is smooth but not quick, though it allows full manual control with paddle shifters. Interestingly, 45% of Taisor buyers opt for the turbo variant, compared to just 10% for the Fronx.
8
The turbo's ARAI figure is 21.18kpl, but real-world mileage is 10.9kpl (city) and 16.7kpl (highway). The 1.2 NA variant is expected to return 13.5–20kpl (manual) and around 13–18.8kpl (AMT), similar to the Fronx.
8
Ride quality at low speeds feels firm, but stability improves at higher speeds. Light steering and a tight turning radius make it city-friendly, while its handling remains engaging despite average feedback.
8
Features like a heads-up display, wireless charging, 9-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and 360-degree camera are included, though only the turbo variants get side/curtain airbags. ESP, hill-start assist, and ABS with EBD are standard.
7
The Taisor builds on the Fronx’s strengths – space, features, and driving dynamics – while wearing a more upmarket Toyota badge. Whether you choose it or the Fronx depends on brand preference and service accessibility, but either way, it’s a well-rounded compact crossover.
