•3dI’m looking for a compact mini SUV or a small car with a petrol automatic. My daily usage is under 25 km, and my monthly usage is under 1,000 km. My budget is a maximum of Rs 6 lakh, and my priority is the best fuel economy.

Autocar India
The Maruti Alto K10 VXI AMT is the only one that fits your requirements. It suits your use because the car is small and light, so the 1.0 petrol delivers excellent fuel efficiency. In our experience, this Maruti 1.0 engine paired with the AMT is among the most fuel-efficient petrol automatics you can buy. It is also simple to own, with low service costs and a wide dealer reach, which will make your ownership experience stress-free. Do note the trade-offs. The back seat and boot are small, on rough roads it can feel a bit bouncy, and it's not best suited to highway duties. If you really want a taller, mini SUV look, the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso VXI AMT is the closest match, but in many cities, its on-road price will cross Rs. 6 lakh.

•5dI want to buy a small car with AMT. My budget is 6 lakh. Please advise.

Autocar India
City use on a tight Rs 6 lakh cap, and you want an automatic that shifts on its own, in that case, the Maruti Alto K10 VXi (O) AT is the one that fits best. The automatic is smooth as far as AMTs go, and it makes stop-start traffic easy without pushing the price too high. The engine feels lively at city speeds, so you do not have to work it hard to keep up. It also uses less fuel in daily use, and Maruti’s wide service network keeps upkeep simple and affordable. As for the trade-offs, the back seat and boot are small, so it is best for one or two people. Also, the AMT has a brief pause when it changes gears, so shifts are not as smooth as a costlier full automatic, though you get used to it quickly. If you prefer a higher driving position and can stretch a bit, check the Maruti S-Presso VXi (O). In some cities, it may cross Rs 6 lakh on-road, so confirm local prices. Overall, for mostly city driving at this budget, the Alto lines up best with what you want.

•3wI’m looking to buy my first car. Usage is 90% city and 10% highway. Budget under ₹5 lakh.

Autocar India
Go for the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 VXi (O) MT as it fits your requirements. At roughly 3.5 m long with a tight turning radius, it will be ideal for driving in congested city traffic and will fit into small parking spots. As a first-time buyer, you’ll appreciate the light steering and clutch in stop‑and-go traffic and being a Maruti car, you'll also appreciate the stress-free ownership experience it comes with. The one thing you give up is high‑speed composure. Above about 90kph, it feels light and gets noisy, so highway stints are best kept calm and brief. If you prioritise stronger crash safety or expect more highway runs later, consider a well‑kept pre‑owned 2021-22 Tata Tiago XZ instead. It scored 4‑star adult protection in NCAP tests.

•5wSuggest a good automatic car petrol within 6 lakh.

Autocar India
Unfortunately, you don't have too many automatic options within Rs 6 lakh (on-road). Your options are Maruti Alto, Maruti S-Presso, Renault Kwid, and thanks to some on-going discounts, you could even manage to get a Celerio VXi AMT, which is the nicest and most premium option among the ones listed.

•6wI am looking for a small automatic car primarily for city driving. My priorities are a low price and good fuel efficiency. Could you please suggest the best options available?

Autocar India
Unfortunately, given your tight budget of Rs 6 lakh, you don't have too many options. Choose between the Maruti Alto and the Maruti S-Presso, both of which come with the same 1-litre petrol engine mated to a 5-speed AMT automatic gearbox. Both are also fairly similar in terms of fuel efficiency, with the Alto returning a claimed 24.90kpl while the S-presso is said to do a marginally higher 25.3kpl. Maruti Alto AT prices range between Rs 5.53 lakh to Rs 6.07 lakh (on-road Delhi), while S-presso automatic prices range between Rs 5.31 lakh and Rs 5.85 lakh (on-road Delhi). Alternatively, dealers will be offering discounts on models like the Maruti Celerio and Renault Kwid, so you could even consider those.

•10wTiago or Alto? How should I choose my second budget car at the age of 67?

Autocar India
If you are looking for a small car that has light and easy controls, the Maruti Suzuki Alto is a good option. It is easy to drive, has a peppy and very fuel-efficient engine. The Alto is also very reliable, and being a Maruti car, it also benefits from a strong service network. The Tata Tiago, on the other hand, is a better option if you want a more spacious car with better interior comfort and a good ride quality. The Tiago is also very safe and has a 4-star Global NCAP rating. Thus, the choice really comes down to what you want from your new car.

•13wMy monthly usage is around 500km, mostly suburban driving. Which car should I buy that is fuel-efficient and easy to maintain? My budget is Rs 6 lakh.

Autocar India
In your tight budget, the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 VXi makes the most sense. It is fuel-efficient, easy to drive, has a well-tuned AMT gearbox, and is very easy to maintain. Maruti’s wide service network keeps ownership stress-free.If you want a slightly roomier and more practical car, the Maruti Celerio is a good alternative, though you may need to stretch your budget by around Rs 50,000 to get the VXi variant with AMT.

•14wI need an automatic car within a budget of ₹7.5 lakh, and I prefer Maruti Suzuki. Could you please suggest some options?

Autocar India
You should choose between the Maruti Suzuki Ignis Zeta AMT and the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R 1.2 AMT ZXI Plus. Both models are powered by 1.2-litre petrol engines that give them a power advantage over other automatic Marutis in your budget (namely, Celerio, Alto K10 and S-Presso).Both use automated manual transmission or AMT-type automatics. While these aren't the slickest automatic gearboxes, Maruti's AMTs work smoothly enough if you adopt an easygoing driving style. Fuel economy is also excellent. Of the two, the Wagon R is more spacious and has a more absorbent ride comfort. On the other hand, the Ignis packs in more features for the same money. If cabin space isn't a deal breaker, opt for the Ignis.

•15wI want to buy an automatic car for my wife, who is a learner. Please advise between the Renault Kwid/Kwid Climber and the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10.

Autocar India
If she is a learner and a new driver, it will be better to go for the AMT version. The Renault Kwid Climber is a better choice than the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10. The Kwid is more spacious, has a bigger boot, and is more comfortable. The Kwid Climber is also more feature-rich and gets an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a rear parking camera.

•18wI am looking to purchase a new car for my wife’s office commute, and driver use with a budget of ₹5 lakh, focusing on reliability and decent safety features, without any fancy extras since our Kia Syros is already fully loaded; which car should I choose?

Autocar India
If you want to buy a new car, you can buy the Maruti Suzuki Alto VXi. It is a reliable car- called Lord Alto for a reason, and now it gets 6 airbags for safety. You can also look at pre-loved cars, which will increase your options in terms of price. Also, now there are many organised players in the used car segment, which give great service and peace of mind.
