Land Rover Discovery

The Land Rover Discovery is a seven-seat luxury SUV, and is the more practicality-focused sibling to the British brand's more style-driven but rugged Defender and the flagship Range Rover. The Discovery is priced from Rs 1.26 crore to Rs 1.39 crore (ex-showroom). The three-row SUV competes with the Audi Q7, Volvo XC90, BMW X7 and Mercedes-Benz GLS. The Discovery is offered in three trim levels in India: Gemini, Dynamic HSE and Tempest.

Power is provided by a 3.0-litre straight-six diesel engine with mild-hybrid assistance, outputting 350hp and 700Nm of torque. This mill is paired with an 8-speed torque-converter automatic gearbox, which then routes the engine’s power to all four wheels via an all-wheel drive (AWD) system. Land Rover claims a 0-100kph time of 6.3 seconds, while the top speed is 209kph.

The Discovery rides on electronically adjustable air suspension, which raises the vehicle to a claimed 286mm of ground clearance for off-roading, while its off-road tech includes Land Rover’s ‘Terrain Response 2’ and ‘All Terrain Progress Control’ systems. The luxury 4x4 can wade through 900mm of water and has a towing capacity of 3,500kg – the latter being assisted by ‘Advanced Tow Assist’.

Inside, the cabin of the Land Rover Discovery is both spacious and comfortable across all three rows. Like its monocoque Defender sibling, the Discovery offers a driving position that gives a commanding view of the road. Standard equipment includes an 11.4-inch Pivi Pro touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, a Meridian surround-sound system, wireless phone charging and multiple USB charging ports. The Discovery’s driver assistance features include a 3D surround-view camera, ‘ClearSight Ground View’ (basically a camera feed from beneath the bonnet), adaptive cruise control, and a driver attention monitoring system.
