Trending Questions on Kia Carens Clavis - Answered by Autocar Experts
Hi, my budget is ₹14-16 lakh and I am looking for a 6- or 7-seater car with good specifications and ride comfort. Please suggest a suitable 6/7-seater car.
The Kia Carens Clavis is the best 6/7 seat car in your budget. It's got a very practical cabin with enough room for passengers in all three rows. The one-touch middle row seat fold allows convenient access to the third row. While the sliding function for the middle row makes it easy to balance space for the last row occupants.
The Carens Clavis is available with petrol, turbo-petrol and diesel engine options. While all engines are pleasant, the turbo-petrol manual in HTK spec is the one we'd recommend for you. Its 160hp engine gives enough performance even with a full load of passengers, while ride comfort is also good, some firmness at low speeds notwithstanding.
I am confused about choosing between the Maruti Suzuki XL6 (Alpha) MT and the Kia Carens Clavis HTE (EX) MT. I intend to replace my Verna. Please advise which one I should choose.
Between the two, if you are looking for something more premium and newer, we would suggest going for the Kia Carens Clavis in the HTE (EX) variant. It is the newer of the two and is also larger, offering a greater sense of space. Overall, it feels more premium and upmarket both inside and out.
In terms of equipment, both cars are fairly well equipped, but with different highlights. The Maruti Suzuki XL6, being the top variant, offers features such as leatherette upholstery, ventilated front seats and alloy wheels. The Clavis, on the other hand, is offered with a sunroof, which the XL6 does not get.
When it comes to performance, both cars are quite similar as they use 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engines. While the Clavis has a more powerful engine on paper, it is also the larger and heavier car, which reduces that advantage in real-world driving. Where the Clavis clearly stands out is engine refinement and sound insulation, where it feels a notch better than the XL6.

I would like to buy a diesel 7-seater. A hybrid powertrain would also be fine. I am in a dilemma between the Kia Carens and other similar cars. Please suggest the best option.
Unfortunately, there are no hybrid seven-seat cars, so diesel is your only option. The Kia Carens Clavis diesel is one of the best diesels in its segment. With an efficient 1.5 diesel engine and a well-designed third row that is practical for large adults to use, and one that we would pick. However, with a full load, the 1.5 diesel is a touch underpowered. So if you want more power, you can look at the newly launched Mahindra XUV 7XO, which has a strong and refined 2.2 diesel. The XUV 7XO is bigger and not as manouverable as the Carens, which, despite being smaller, has a more comfortable back seat than the XUV 7XO
I am planning to buy the Hyundai Alcazar Prestige manual diesel variant. Is it a good choice or not? Please tell me.
The Hyundai Alcazar is a well-engineered vehicle, but it's not very popular, and Hyundai is considering discontinuing it. The Alcazar is more of a "Creta Plus’ than a full-fledged seven-seater in its own right.
Whilst the middle row with the captain seat arrangement is quite comfortable, the Alcazar is a bit narrow, and the third row is not good for adults. The Alcazar is expensive for what it offers, and in that respect, the Kia Carens Clavis is a better value.
I have been using an Ertiga CNG for the last 12 years. I now want to shift to a 7-seater petrol car with a budget of Rs 20-22 lakh on-road. Most of my driving is in the city, with long drives twice a year for vacations. I am looking for a comfortable ride for city driving. Once every two months, I travel from Pune to Mumbai to Pune.
I am looking for a 7-seater car with comfortable seating, good mileage, a good engine, a strong feature list, and stable highway performance on long runs.
I want to purchase a strong hybrid or plug-in hybrid with a budget of Rs 25-30L for a family of 6. Please suggest a good 6-seater car with a strong safety rating. I am not keen on 7 or 8 seater cars. Good headroom and leg space are important. I prefer well-known brands with lower maintenance costs. I have checked the XL6, but it is only a mild hybrid with a low safety rating, and the Kia Carens Clavis EV is only available as a 7-seater. Any help is appreciated.
Is the Kia Clavis HTE Optional with turbo engine a good buy from a mileage and performance point-of-view?
I am considering an MPV as a 6/7-seater (the third row will be used minimally) in petrol manual or automatic (not diesel due to DPF concerns). I travel about 2,500 km per month (70% highway, but with numerous shallow potholes). My maximum budget is ₹16 lakh. Which car would you recommend?
If you travel mainly on the highway, you need an MPV with a strong engine for easy overtaking and cruising and for your budget, the Kia Carens Clavis HTE EX with a 1.5 turbo petrol is best for your highway runs. However, for your budget, you will only get a manual option and not an automatic, which may not be convenient for city driving.
If you only want an automatic, then your best option is a Maruti-Suzuki XL6 Alpha, which comes with a smooth torque converter gearbox. The XL6 lacks the punch of the Carens Clavis turbo, and you need to work harder to overtake on the highway.
