I own a Dzire petrol car and want to replace it with a new petrol car. Please suggest the best petrol car in the ₹10-12 lakh range.
Without knowing your exact requirements, it would be hard to recommend one. If you've had a good experience with your Maruti Dzire, it might be worth considering the new-gen Dzire, which comes feature-packed. It also has received a 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP and Bharat NCAP. Plus, this Maruti car also gets a smooth and efficient 1.2-litre petrol engine that can be had with either a 5-speed manual or AMT auto gearbox options.
If you prefer a hatchback, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Hyundai i20 are good options in this budget. As for compact SUVs, there are a plethora of options available like the Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Skoda Kylaq, Tata Nexon, and more.

I am looking for an automatic car for city commuting. My average monthly running will be around 1,000 km. My budget is around Rs 10 lakh. I have shortlisted the Honda Amaze VX, Hyundai i20 Sportz, and Hyundai Nios. Please suggest which one I should buy.
We suggest the Honda Amaze VX or the Hyundai i20 Sportz automatic, as both use smoother and more premium CVT transmissions compared to the basic AMT in the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios.
Between the two, the Hyundai i20 IVT is the better pick. It feels more premium and, as a hatchback, is more practical with folding rear seats for added luggage space. It is also spacious, comfortable, and well-equipped in the Sportz variant you are considering.

My dad currently drives a 2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire Diesel manual, which has run around 1.2 lakh km. He is 65 and mostly drives in the city. We are planning to switch to an automatic for better comfort and convenience. 1. Should we retain the existing Dzire for a few more years or sell it now, considering running cost, age, and expected resale value? 2. If we go for a replacement, is the Maruti Fronx AMT a good upgrade? Any other automatic options (under ₹10–11 lakh on-road) that would be.

My monthly usage will be about 400 km inside the city, and I will make long trips twice a year. I’m considering upgrading from my Xcent to the Venue. I need your insights to decide between the Venue HX6 1.2 litre and the HX6 DCT versions. I’m particularly concerned about the 1.0/1.2 engine’s reliability and the DCT’s maintenance requirements.
The 1.0-litre turbo petrol with the DCT has been used across several Hyundai and Kia cars, such as the Venue, i20 and the Sonet, and has proven reliable over time.
Hyundai has also improved the gearbox’s smoothness, making it a well-rounded powertrain. Compared with the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine, the turbo offers a significant performance advantage, especially on the highway, and the 1.2-litre does not offer an automatic option either.

The Honda Amaze's 1.2-litre petrol engine feels a bit livelier and more effortless in terms of performance, compared to an i20 petrol-IVT. With it, you also get a large boot, as well as Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), which could be a deal-maker for some.
The Hyundai car, on the other hand, has a smoother, more refined engine, and overall, it feels better built than the Honda Amaze.
In summary, if ADAS and a boot are important to you, go for the Amaze; else the Hyundai i20 IVT delivers a more premium experience and is the more rounded choice.

I’ve driven 1,25,000 km in 9 years. My Figo (1.2 TI-VCT) has never let me down in any situation. Although the mileage is low, it has never caused me any serious trouble, and the ride and handling are excellent. I am now looking for a car to replace my Figo. I have the Hyundai i20 N Line in mind. Please suggest a car with great handling. Mileage is not a concern.

Its 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine will feel like a huge step up from the 1.2-litre petrol in your Figo, and the handling is sweet and engaging. I want to buy a car for Pune with high ground clearance. I have had past experience with excessive noise from a 3-cylinder engine. Is there any car with a 4-cylinder engine, high ground clearance (above 180 mm), under 4 metres in length, and an automatic transmission other than AMT? Please suggest.
The Maruti Suzuki Brezza will fit your requirements really well. It is powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine, which is mated to a 6-speed torque-converter transmission. The engine is smooth, and gearbox combination makes it easy to drive in traffic. There is ample ground clearance on offer as per your requirement.
Another good and more reasonable option in terms of price would have been the Hyundai i20 with the iVT transmission. This Hyundai car has a smooth 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine paired to a CVT automatic transmission, which makes driving a pleasure. Yes, it doesn’t have as much ground clearance as the Brezza, but in our experience, for most situations in the city, you will be fine with the Hyundai hatch.

Hi, I am planning to buy an automatic car under 10 Lakh rupees. I was in a dilemma between the i20 Sportz IVT and the Tata Altroz Creative AMT. Which one would suit both city and highway driving with good fuel efficiency? Please advise.
Pick the AMT version of the Tata Altroz only if fuel efficiency is extremely important to you. Do keep in mind, the AMT is quite jerky, and the drive won't be as seamless as the Hyundai i20 CVTs or as the Altroz DCA's, both of which are far smoother options.
If you love the Altroz for what it is, consider spending a bit more and getting the dual-clutch automatic version for a much superior drive experience.

I want to buy my first car. I am 43 years old. I have booked a pre-owned Hyundai i20 Sportz, 2023 registration, which has only run 9,500 km and has no dents or major scratches, at Rs 6.35 lakh. At the same time, if I spend Rs 2 lakh more, I can get a new Hyundai Exter SX model at Rs 8.35 lakh. What should I do? Should I buy the pre-owned i20 or the new Exter at Rs 8.35 lakh? Please reply this time.
If you don't mind owning a pre-owned car, and have thoroughly checked the vehicle for accident, flood, or any other damages, the i20 will feel like a much superior car than the Hyundai Exter - its quality is better, its cabin is more spacious, and it feels more confident while driving too.
We'd suggest going ahead with the 2023 Hyundai i20. You could also consider extending its warranty for added peace of mind.
