I am currently driving a Honda Amaze (2022 model), and I really like its engine and CVT automatic transmission. However, I have been disappointed by its low ground clearance, which once resulted in the oil sump getting damaged. Another concern has been shock absorbers, as I had to replace it twice in four years. I also feel that the ride quality is not very smooth on pothole-ridden and rough roads. I am now looking to buy a new sedan or SUV that offers the strengths of Amaze, but with better ground clearance, a more comfortable ride on rough roads, and a 4 or 5-star safety rating. My budget is between Rs. 15 lakh and Rs. 18 lakh. Which models would you recommend?

The Kia Seltos 1.5 Petrol IVT would be the recommendation here. Since you've enjoyed the refinement and smoothness of the Amaze's petrol engine and CVT, the Seltos feels like a natural upgrade. The IVT automatic is smooth in city traffic, the cabin feels significantly more premium and the higher ground clearance means you won't have to worry about scraping the underbody or damaging the oil sump on rough roads. It also offers a comfortable ride and a much more feature-rich cabin than your current car.If you'd prefer to stay within the Honda family, the Honda Elevate CVT is also worth considering. It offers excellent ground clearance, a comfortable ride and Honda's reputation for reliability. However, compared to the Kia car, the engine and transmission combination doesn't feel quite as refined, and the cabin lacks the premium feel and feature-rich experience of the Seltos.

I have a budget of ₹10-12 lakh. About 80% of my driving is in the city (Mumbai, Goregaon), with occasional long drives. My priorities are good resale value, a good music system, and quality interiors (hence I am not interested in Maruti). I am considering the i20 Sportz/Asta, Amaze, and Kylaq. Which one should I choose? Are there any other options like the Sonnet or Venue that I should consider?

Verified

The Hyundai i20 is the one that fits your brief best. Given your city-heavy use, we recommend an automatic, so look at an i20 with the 1.2 petrol and CVT (Hyundai calls it IVT), which feels very smooth in slow traffic. While it's tempting to go for the more powerful 1.0 turbo-petrol, its DCT gearbox is not as smooth as the CVT at low speeds, hence we don't recommend it. Also, while the i20 1.2 IVT Asta (O) could go out of your budget, we would recommend you to stretch it, as that will get you the Bose sound system, which sounds excellent. Hyundai resale is also strong in Mumbai, which meets your first priority. The Honda Amaze is easy to own and has good resale value too. It's reliable, good on maintenance, fuel efficient, fun to drive and spacious. But the interiors and music system are nothing to write home about. The Sonet, Venue and Kylaq are good options, but won't give you the kind of features and high-spec interior you are seeking in this budget. That said, when it comes to resale value, none are quite as good as Maruti cars, since that is your number one priority.

Hi Autocar Team, I am planning to upgrade from my Hyundai i10 Sportz 1.2 AT and am looking for a new automatic car with a maximum budget of ₹11 lakh (on-road). The car will be used mostly by my parents for city driving. My current shortlist includes: Maruti Suzuki Baleno Alpha AMT Hyundai Exter AMT Honda Amaze CVT Key requirements: Good real-world mileage Easy to drive in city conditions Comfortable and convenient for my parents Preference for top-end variants My annual usage is relatively low, around 6,000–7,000 km, so I am inclined towards petrol but open to diesel if it makes more sense. While the usage will be mostly within the city, the car may occasionally be used for long trips (around 500–800 km) once or twice a year. I am confused between choosing a more comfortable and efficient hatchback, a taller car with better visibility, or a more refined CVT sedan. I am also open to other suggestions slightly outside this shortlist if there are better options within this budget. Could you please advise on the best choice for my requirements?

Mostly city use by your parents, low yearly running, and a hard cap of about Rs 11 lakh on-road points to the Honda Amaze CVT.Why this fits your brief: compared to your 2013 i10 AT or the other AMTs you've shortlisted, the Amaze’s CVT will feel calmer and smoother at low speeds, so stop-go traffic will be less tiring. The cabin is simple, the seats are supportive, and visibility is good, so it is easy to drive and park. Petrol is the right pick for 6,000-7,000 km a year. Two watch-outs: the Amaze sits low, so getting in and out is not as upright as something like the Hyundai Exter. Fuel efficiency also won’t be as good as the Maruti Suzuki Dzire. In our real-world tests, the Amaze managed 13.28 kpl (combined), while the Dzire averaged 15.41 kpl (combined). If that is a concern, the Dzire is a good bet, though the AMT won’t be as smooth as a CVT. If your parents value a higher seat and an easy step-in, pick the Hyundai Exter AMT.Overall, for mostly city use and comfort for your parents, the Amaze CVT lines up best with what you described.

Hi Team, I am looking to buy a petrol automatic 5-seater primarily for city driving. My usage will mostly be on weekends and during the rainy season for short-distance daily drives. My main priorities are a strong rear AC, a large boot space, easy maneuverability for parking, and stable performance without wobbling while overtaking or driving above 80 km/h. I prefer practicality and utility over looks. My budget is around ₹12 lakh (on-road). Could you please suggest the most suitable options? Additionally, I would appreciate your views on the Honda Amaze CVT.

The Honda Amaze CVT is a great option for you for several reasons. For one, it's got a powerful AC unit as well as rear AC vents, which together do a great job of cooling the relatively compact cabin quickly. It's got a 416-litre boot that's well shaped and can accommodate quite a lot of luggage. While it doesn't have a surround camera like its rival, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, it does have a pretty crisp rear-view camera and rear parking sensors. Also, its compact dimensions, large mirrors, and good general outward visibility mean parking is not a chore. It's uncertain what may have caused the wobbling you've experienced while overtaking at high speeds, or in which car, but that won't be an issue here. The Amaze's 1.2-litre petrol is smooth, as is its CVT automatic, which is a highlight in this segment. The chassis and suspension are robust and work well both in the city and out on the highway. You could also consider the Maruti Dzire, which has good space and features, but its AMT gearbox is nowhere near as smooth as the Honda's CVT.

Hi, I have recently purchased the Honda Amaze ZX CVT and would like suggestions on a few accessories and upgrades. For TPMS, I am looking for an internal type system that can sync with the infotainment system, within a budget of ₹10,000, and without an additional display unit (like Blaupunkt TPMS). For a dual dashcam, I prefer one with Sony Starvis 2 sensors (front and rear), with a budget of ₹10,000-₹12,000. Additionally, should I consider upgrading to an electronic rear-view mirror (eRVM)? Also, my car currently has Goodyear tyres. Should I upgrade to Yokohama, or continue with the stock tyres?

Verified

For your Honda Amaze ZX CVT, go for a SensAiry internal TPMS and a 70mai A510 Dual dashcam – this combo matches your brief, keeps the cabin clean with no extra display, and stays within budget. SensAiry’s in-tyre sensors talk to your phone, and you can see pressures and temperatures on the car screen via Android Auto, so there’s no need for a separate reader; it usually comes in under Rs 10,000 for four sensors plus fitting. Note that Android integration is better; with an iPhone, you’ll mainly use the phone app rather than CarPlay. Get it installed at a good tyre shop so valves are tightened correctly, and the wheels are rebalanced. For the dashcam, the 70mai A510 Dual gives you a Sony Starvis 2 sensor for the front camera and a solid rear channel in the Rs 10,000-Rs 12,000 band. At this price, you rarely get Starvis 2 at both ends, so night number plates from the rear will be decent rather than class-leading. If you want Starvis 2 for both front and rear, you’ll have to stretch for something like the Viofo A229 Plus Duo; if that feels too expensive, stick with the A510. In all cases, use a hardwire kit with an add-a-fuse (no wire cutting) and a good 128GB U3 card.Yes, upgrade to an auto-dimming inside mirror - it cuts night-time glare and eye strain. A straightforward UNO Minda or Blaupunkt auto-dimming IRVM works well. Just check the mount compatibility for the Amaze and consider dealer-side installation for warranty peace of mind.Keep the Goodyear tyres for now, they’re new and perfectly fine for daily use. If, after a few months, you find road noise or wet grip not to your liking, then switch in the same size to Yokohama Earth 1. Set pressures to the door sticker values on cold tyres after the TPMS install and run the app calibration once..

"Hey, I'm stuck between the Maruti Baleno zeta or alpha, Tata Punch adventure, and Honda Amaze vx - all with automatics. I'm looking for good safety features, decent mileage, and low maintenance costs, with durability being a top priority. My current ride's a WagonR automatic. Any advice?" My monthly drive is 2500-3000km

Given how much you drive, you'd be happiest with the Honda Amaze CVT. It's got the most sophisticated gearbox and its smoothness will have a big bearing on your drive experience. The Amaze offers ample safety features and its reassuring to know that its a 5 star Bharat NCAP-rated model. Hondas are easy to maintain, very reliable and will not give trouble for years. Do note, the Amaze CVT is decent on fuel economy but won't be as fuel efficient as the other two that use simpler AMT gearboxes. If fuel economy is a key priority, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno AGS is your best bet.

I have a budget of ₹10-12 lakh and have shortlisted two cars: the Tata Nexon Creative S+ AMT and the Honda Amaze ZX CVT. My monthly driving will not exceed 500 km. Since this will be my first car, I am a bit confused about which one to choose.

Verified

The Honda Amaze will offer a better ownership experience for you. Firstly, it's a CVT, which is smoother and much more responsive than the AMT in the Tata Nexon. It’s lighter and more agile than the Nexon too, which as a first-time owner makes it easier to drive and manouver especially in the city. Being a Honda car, you can expect it to be more reliable and easier to maintain. It’s efficient and fairly spacious too, and for your budget, the Amaze is the right choice.

Hello team, I read your blogs regularly and value your reviews. Please guide me on which car I should buy from my shortlisted options. This will be my first car, and I enjoy driving. My requirements are a minimalist design (not too many gadgets), a manual transmission, good comfort and space, and a roomy boot. I’ve shortlisted the Volkswagen Virtus, Honda Amaze, and Hyundai Basalt. My budget is ₹12–14 lakh. Please advise.

Thank you for your support. We're happy to help! Coming to your question, the Honda Amaze, while practical and comfy, does not have the driving thrill you would want. The Volkswagen Virtus, while impressive, will not fit in your budget apart from the base variant, which isn't too impressive. The Citroen Basalt X will be a good pick out of this lot. It has a punchy turbo-petrol engine that is lovely to drive, the ride comfort is excellent, and it has a large boot as well. Also, while it is feature-packed, it isn't unnecessarily complicated, and the functions are easy to use. The Basalt X would be our recommendation.

I want to buy an automatic car and drive about 50 km daily in the city, with 3–4 highway trips a year. I have shortlisted the Nexon Pure+ AMT, XUV 3XO AT, Brezza AT, Amaze VX CVT, and Fronx Delta AMT. Mileage and build quality are important to me. Please advise which one would suit me best.

Verified
33w

Of your shortlisted options, the Honda Amaze CVT is the best bet. Its 1.2-litre i-VTEC petrol engine is among the more fuel-efficient of the cars selected here, with only the Maruti Suzuki Fronx Delta AMT offering higher mileage. However, the Fronx AMT gearbox is not as smooth as the Amaze's CVT, which will be beneficial in city driving. The Amaze, like all Honda cars, has good build quality, with high-quality materials and great fit and finish.

My wife drives a Honda Amaze (MT) and her daily commute is around 15 km. We already own a Virtus and an i20, but want to upgrade the Amaze. Considering options like the Sonet, Elevate, Venue, or 3rd-gen Amaze. Looking for a value-for-money car with good resale potential and discounts on the current car. Please advise.

If your current Honda Amaze is the 2nd generation, then the 3rd generation will feel more like an update. If you want something different, the new Hyundai Venue (due to launch in the first week of November) would be a good option. It meets your criteria for resale value and should hold its value well.
