8.0
The i7 gets a substantial styling update, with slimmer crystalline-effect DRLs, a redesigned illuminated kidney grille and vertically oriented headlamps. The black treatment has also been toned down, while new 20-inch wheels bring higher-profile tyres that benefit ride comfort. At the rear, broader tail-lamps, a cleaner bumper and a new diffuser give it a neater appearance. The optional two-tone finish adds considerable road presence.
9.0
The redesigned cabin brings a new panoramic head-up display in place of the conventional instrument cluster, along with a new steering wheel and 17.9-inch central touchscreen. Crystalline detailing, ambient lighting and the light-coloured cabin add to the sense of luxury. All four seats get heating, ventilation and massage, while the rear-left seat gets a one-touch relaxation mode with an ottoman. Boot space remains compromised by the spare wheel mounted on the boot floor.
10.0
The i7 50 M Sport comes loaded with features, including the panoramic head-up display, 17.9-inch touchscreen, passenger display, 31.3-inch 8K rear theatre screen and powered doors. The 35-speaker Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System with Dolby Atmos is a standout feature, delivering an exceptionally immersive audio experience. The touchscreen interface, however, can feel overwhelming due to the number of functions spread across multiple menus.
9.0
The dual-motor setup produces 483 hp and 660 Nm, delivering effortless performance in everyday driving. It can accelerate from 0-100kph in 5.5 seconds and reach 200kph in under 19 seconds. The accelerator response is smooth and progressive, while the Adaptive regenerative braking mode is particularly well calibrated. Buyers can also choose synthetic motor sounds or drive in near silence.
9.0
The larger 112.5kWh NMC battery gives the i7 50 xDrive a claimed WLTP range of up to 728km. Real-world range testing has not yet been conducted, but it is expected to comfortably exceed 500km. BMW claims a 10-80 percent DC fast charge in 28 minutes using a 250kW or higher charger, while a 22kW AC charger takes around six hours for a full charge.
10.0
Despite its size, the i7 is surprisingly easy to manoeuvre, thanks to light steering and rear-wheel steering. The ride is exceptionally comfortable, with the high-profile tyres and air suspension absorbing potholes and broken surfaces with ease. Body control remains impressive, even in Sport mode, while xDrive provides strong grip and stability. Cabin insulation is also excellent, keeping road and wind noise well isolated.
9.0
Priced at Rs 1.95 crore, the locally assembled i7 50 xDrive costs the same as the petrol-powered 740 and is slightly more affordable than the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Its combination of bold styling, exceptional ride comfort, advanced technology, impressive performance and a superb audio system gives it a strong sense of occasion. The compromised luggage space and less intuitive touchscreen interface remain notable drawbacks, but the i7 delivers a highly luxurious and refined experience.

Questions you may find useful
Hi Autocar Team, I wanted your guidance on whether I should buy the new Lexus ES 350h Hybrid or wait for the upcoming BMW i5 LWB. My concern with the BMW i5 LWB is that it is likely to be one of the last models based on BMW's current platform, with the Neue Klasse-based i5 expected to arrive in the near future. Given how quickly EV technology is evolving, I am worried that it could become outdated relatively soon. On the other hand, the Lexus ES 350h is based on Toyota's sixth-generation hybrid technology, which makes me feel it may remain relevant for longer within its segment. That said, the idea of switching to an EV is also very exciting, so I am finding it difficult to decide. Which one would you recommend?
The new i5 LWB is expected to be a thorough revision of the current model based on the CLAR platform, with Neue Klasse-inspired styling and perhaps battery and motor updates, rather than an outright shift to the Neue Klasse platform of the i3. This is similar to what was done with the BMW i7, which also shares the CLAR platform, as both are only halfway through their life cycles. Besides, that is still some time away, and the only i5 you can buy now is the sporty (and low-slung) M60. You're right about rapidly advancing EV tech, but whether you choose today's i5 or the incoming LCI or LWB, you'll still have a luxurious, comfortable, refined and powerful EV.As for the Lexus, if you're choosing the hybrid, know that it is about half the price of what the i5 LWB will likely cost. There is also the ES Electric, which is closer in price and concept to the i5. Either way, the ES seems like the better choice for you if you plan to purchase today, since as you mentioned, it is presently the more contemporary option. That said, depending on which camp you fall into, a hybrid may already be behind in terms of relevance compared to any EV, so it really comes down to the nature of your usage. For now, in India, pound for pound, a hybrid makes more sense than an EV, so if you're keen on the new ES hybrid, you should go for it.
