Audi is one of Germany’s best-known luxury carmakers and has been present in India since 2007. Over the years, the brand has built a portfolio spanning luxury sedans and SUVs, along with high-performance models aimed at buyers seeking stronger performance. The Q3 and A4 form the entry tier while  the Q5, A6, Q7 and Q8 occupy the mid and upper tiers. Audi's Indian portfolio also includes performance SUVs such as the SQ8 and RS Q8 performance, which sit at the top end of the range.

The brand is known for its understated German design, technology-focused cabins and strong highway manners. In India, Audi competes primarily with BMW and Mercedes-Benz, while its range also overlaps with luxury SUVs from brands such as Volvo, JLR and Lexus.

Where Audi stands out

Audi's appeal comes from combining luxury with a relatively understated design and a technology-led cabin. Its cars tend to focus on high-speed stability, refined engines and composed handling, rather than an overtly sporty character across the entire range.

• Quattro all-wheel drive: Audi’s quattro all-wheel-drive system is standard or widely available on core models such as the A4, Q3, Q5, Q7 and Q8, though some entry variants may be front-wheel drive only.
• Technology-focused interiors: Digital displays, touchscreen interfaces and a clean dashboard design are central to the Audi cabin experience.
• Understated styling: Audi generally takes a restrained approach to exterior and interior design, making its cars less flashy than some rivals.
• Performance options: The S and RS range caters to buyers looking for substantially higher performance without moving away from Audi’s everyday usability.

Audi's India manufacturing and localisation

Audi has been assembling cars in India since 2007 at the Volkswagen Group’s facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly known as Aurangabad) site in Maharashtra. The facility currently assembles the Q3, Q3 Sportback, Q5, Q7, A4 and A6 for the Indian market.

However, high-performance models such as the RS Q8 Performance and SQ8 continue to arrive as CBU (completely built-up) imports. Being fully imported rather than assembled in India, these models attract higher import duties, contributing to their significantly higher prices compared with Audi’s locally assembled cars.

Audi and electric cars in India

Audi was among the early luxury carmakers to introduce premium electric models in India with the e-tron range. However, the brand currently has no electric car on sale in India, with its EV portfolio between generations.

The next major addition is the Q6 e-tron, which is expected to arrive in India around mid-2027. It will also be Audi’s first electric model to be locally assembled in India. The brand is also expected to bring the A6 e-tron and facelifted e-tron GT to India, although their launch timelines should be treated as expected rather than confirmed.
