Questions you may find useful

My driving is around 800 km a month. I am not sure which one would be more value for money: Swift or Baleno/Glanza. Currently, I drive an Urban Cruiser but am looking for a change. My priority is ease of city driving, comfort on highway drives, and I will go for an AMT. The more fuel-efficient and safe, the better. Though safety and efficiency do not go hand in hand. Please help me decide.

The Swift's 1.2L 3-cylinder petrol engine is very drivable and is likely to deliver slightly better fuel efficiency compared to the Baleno's/Glanza's 1.2L 4-cylinder unit. The Maruti Suzuki Swift is quite peppy up to 60kph of speed, after which you will find performance to be a bit lacklustre. And since you've mentioned you want a car for city and highway usage both, we recommend you opt for the Baleno or Glanza instead, for its more effortless performance. There's little to choose between the Baleno and Toyota Glanza, as both are nearly identical. Though the Glanza's beige-black interior colour scheme looks a touch more upmarket than the Maruti's.

Hello team. I’m selling my old i20 and planning to buy a new car. I’ve shortlisted the Tata Altroz, Maruti Baleno, Toyota Glanza and Maruti Dzire. My priorities are an automatic transmission, good mileage, 4/5-star safety, an armrest and a rear wiper. I’m attracted to the Glanza for its styling and the UV-cut glass on the top variant. My maximum budget is ₹10.5-11 lakh on-road in Telangana. Please suggest which is best.

The Toyota Glanza is a rebadged Maruti Suzuki Baleno, and the only difference between the two is the badge, some interior trim colours and the warranty. The Glanza is sold with a 3-year/1,00,000km warranty, while the Baleno gets a 2-year/40,000km warranty. The Glanza is a good option if you like the way it looks, and the UV cut glass is a must-have feature for you. However, if you are looking for a car that will hold its value better, then the Maruti Suzuki Baleno is the better option, and also features UV cut class. The Tata Altroz does get you the option of a diesel engine, and a DCT automatic, which is the more sophisticated auto gearbox here. The Altroz price starts at Rs 6.30 lakh (ex-showroom). However, you could also consider the new Hyundai i20, which comes with a CVT auto or a DCT with its powerful turbo engine. The Hyundai i20 price starts at Rs 6 lakh and goes up to Rs 11.59 lakh (ex-showroom).

Hi Autocar team, I am an amateur driver looking to buy my first car. I am planning to buy an automatic (AMT) car with a budget of ₹11 lakh in Bangalore. I will be driving this car 85% of the time in bumper-to-bumper city traffic. I am confused between the Toyota Glanza and the Hyundai Exter top variants. My top priorities are ease of driving for a new learner and decent city mileage. I know each car has its strengths, but which one do you think I should choose?

Those are both excellent options, and as you said, each has its strengths. The Hyundai Exter has the advantage of a taller seating position and a more compact overall footprint, both of which should serve you well as an amateur driver. Since that is your main priority, the Exter should be your pick, as mileage too will be good (ARAI rating of 19.2kpl), although not quite as good as the Glanza (ARAI rating of 22.94kpl).The Toyota Glanza has a more premium and spacious interior, and a few more features too, but if that is lower down on your priority list, then stick with the Exter.

Hi! I’m planning to buy a hatchback or sub-4m SUV for mostly solo highway driving, around 4,500 km per month. I’m looking for a comfortable automatic car with good mileage that can seat 4 people comfortably. I’ve shortlisted the Toyota Glanza V AMT since it offers a Maruti engine (which I’ve always liked) without being a Maruti-branded car, something my family prefers to avoid. Given this context, do you think the Glanza is the right choice in 2025, or would you recommend any other non-Maruti options?

If the badge is enough to convince your family that it isn't a Maruti Suzuki, and you would like to purchase the Toyota Glanza, then go right ahead, because it is a very capable premium hatchback. Its 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine is one of the smoothest and most efficient around, as you no doubt know, and it is also quite well loaded with features and spacious as well. However, since you do a lot of highway driving, you should also consider the Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor, which, once again, is a Maruti Suzuki Fronx with a Toyota badge. You might have to up your budget a bit here, but the advantage is higher ground clearance as well as the option of the punchier 1.0 Boosterjet turbo-petrol engine, which is efficient, but will give you a bit more punch out on the highway.

I am a bit confused about selecting a brand for an automatic car: Option 1: Maruti Baleno or Toyota Glanza Option 2: Maruti Fronx or Toyota Taisor My concerns are mileage, safety, comfort, build quality, and maintenance costs for a six-foot-tall person driving on rough roads in Chennai.

As you know, the Baleno and Glanza are essentially the same car, just as the Fronx and Taisor are. So your choice between Maruti Suzuki and Toyota really comes down to brand preference and the sales and service network each has near you.In terms of space and comfort, all four cars have similar cabins, with enough seat travel and headroom to comfortably accommodate a six-foot-tall driver. As per your needs, the Fronx or Taisor are better choices, especially when driving on rough roads around Chennai. Their slightly higher ground clearance handles uneven surfaces well. They also offer a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with a 6-speed automatic gearbox, which is smoother and more responsive than the AMT in the Baleno and Glanza. While the turbo-automatic versions may give slightly lower fuel efficiency, they make up for it with better performance, refinement, and comfort, which matters more for daily driving.
