Tata Tigor facelift to launch as Aeris on September 25

Tata Motors has released the first teaser of its upcoming Aeris sedan, set to launch on September 25. The Tata Aeris will essentially be a rebranded Tigor facelift, and more details about the new sedan are expected to be shared in the run-up to its launch later this week.

Compared to the Tigor, the Aeris’s front fascia appears to be sleeker; it gets slim LED headlights with a thin DRL strip above them. The teaser also reveals LED fog lamps, which the Tigor does not offer. Other details include redesigned tail-lights and a new purple exterior shade.

Going by the design patent images of the Aeris from earlier, its rear bumper features reflectors on both sides. The images also reveal a notchback-style tapering roofline similar to the Tigor. The design for the wheels is new, and they may measure 15 inches, just like those of the current sedan. Despite being a facelift, the Aeris will feature sheet metal changes. The Tigor EV is expected to have a design similar to that of the ICE version, albeit with some EV-specific tweaks.

While details of the Aeris’s interior are yet to be revealed, much of the design is expected to be borrowed from the Tiago, which received a major update earlier this year. As a result, the sedan could get a revised dashboard design, a freestanding touchscreen and more. Other expected features include automatic climate control, powered outside rearview mirrors (ORVMs), 6 airbags as standard, rear AC vents and fast-charging ports.  

Tata Aeris expected powertrains

The Aeris is likely to carry over the powertrain options from the Tigor: 1.2-litre petrol and petrol-CNG, both of which are available with a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. On the other hand, the Aeris EV may borrow the Tiago EV’s 19.2kWh and 24kWh battery pack options.

Prices are expected to be revised slightly with this facelift. At the time of writing, the Tata Tigor costs Rs 5.55 lakh to Rs 8.84 lakh, while the Tigor EV is priced from Rs 12.49 lakh to Rs 13.75 lakh (both ex-showroom). Like the electric Tiago, the Aeris EV could also be offered with a Battery-as-a-Subscription (BaaS) option for a lower upfront price.
