Maruti combined sales in 2024

Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest car manufacturer (by volume), reported sales of 17,55,425 passenger vehicles at a 3 percent year-over-year growth rate in 2024. Precisely, an additional 47,475 units were sold last year over 2023. However, in comparison, CY2023’s 17,07,668 units was a higher 8.35 percent YoY increase.

  1. January 2024 had most dispatches at 1,66,802
  2. Maruti witnessed flat sales for two months – April and May
  3. Its current lineup includes hatchbacks, sedan, van, MUVs and SUVs

Further, Maruti Suzuki witnessed zero growth or flat sales for two months – April and May – and a sales decline for four months in a row – July to October. The passenger vehicle and utility vehicle market leader’s best month was January 2024, when it dispatched 1,66,802 units (up 13 percent YoY).

The SUV and MPV range contributed the largest number to sales for the brand, as was the case in 2023. The seven-model utility vehicle (UV) portfolio, comprising the Brezza, Grand Vitara, Fronx, Jimny, XL6, Ertiga and Invicto, together sold 7,10,671 units (a 25 percent YoY increase). Further, the UV segment contributed to 40 percent of Maruti Suzuki’s sales in CY2024, compared to 33 percent in CY2023 and 21 percent in CY2022.

SUVs, MPVs drive growth for Maruti in 2024 as hatchback sales decline

Sales brought in by hatchbacks (Alto, Swift, Wagon R, etc) and sedans (Dzire and Ciaz) stood at 9,06,049, down 10 percent (CY2023: 10,05,113 units). This translates into 99,064 fewer passenger vehicles being sold in CY2024. The share of passenger cars and sedans in CY2024 was 52 percent compared to 59 percent in CY2023.

In comparison, the continued demand for Maruti's seven-model portfolio of SUVs and MPVs saw the company despatching an additional 1,44,126 units in CY2024. Without this, overall Maruti sales in 2024 would have not crossed the brand's 2023 figure.
