Renault Triber India launch on August 28

Renault India has confirmed that its new Triber will launch in India on August 28, with bookings scheduled to commence on August 17, 2019. Bookings will begin online on Renault's website and at showrooms for an amount of Rs 11,000.

Renault’s first all-new model since it brought the Captur to India two years ago, the Triber will technically sit between the Kwid and the Duster in terms of pricing. While the Triber may be a sub-four-metre model, it is rather wide and tall for its price bracket – in fact, the 1,739mm width, 1,643mm height and 2,636mm wheelbase means the Renault Triber is wider, taller and has a longer wheelbase than most premium hatchbacks currently on sale.

This is how Renault has been able to manage seating for seven. The third row of seats may not be comfortable for long distances, but remove them and there’s 625 litres of luggage space available. The dual-tone cabin features quality bits and a neatly laid out, uncluttered dashboard, with the large 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system taking centre stage. The system comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility and navigation. Other features that will come with higher-spec variants of the Triber include keyless entry and go, a 3.5-inch part digital instrument cluster, a cooled glove box and AC vents in all three rows.

All variants will come standard with three-point seat belts on all rows, ABS, reverse parking sensors and two airbags, though range-topping versions will get a front-side airbag too.

At launch, the Triber will be available with a single engine-gearbox option – a 1.0-litre petrol engine that makes 72hp and 96Nm of peak torque, which sends power to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission, though a 5-speed AMT is also expected. There’s a turbo-petrol engine option that’s expected to launch later, which should provide more oomph.

Expect Renault Triber prices to range from Rs 5 lakh for the base variants and go up to Rs 8 lakh for the top-spec trim. This would mean that the compact seven-seater has no direct rivals in our market – the Datsun Go+ (another sub-4m 7-seater) is priced between Rs 3.87-5.94 lakh while the next, most affordable petrol seven-seater, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, retails from Rs 7.55-10.06 lakh. This price point should also help avoid any overall with Renault’s own MPV, the Lodgy, which costs Rs 8.63-12.12 lakh and is only available with a 1.5-litre diesel motor.

    All prices are ex-showroom, Delhi
