    • Automatic version of Triber gets a 5-speed AMT

    • AMT versions priced at a premium of Rs 40,000 over manuals

    • Bookings via Renault’s website, My Renault App and at dealerships

Renault India has launched the AMT-equipped Triber, with prices starting from Rs 6.18 lakh and going up to Rs 7.22 lakh. The Triber AMT is available in three variants - RxL, RxT and RxZ, which is something we had reported on a while back. Bookings for the Triber AMT have opened on Renault India’s website, the My Renault App and at dealerships across the country as of today. Test drive models have also arrived at Renault dealerships. Deliveries are expected to commence in the coming weeks.

Interestingly, prices for all Triber manual variants, except the entry-level RxE, have increased by Rs 4,000, compared to when BS6 Triber prices had been announced. Triber AMT prices are about Rs 40,000 higher than their equivalent manual counterparts. The complete variant-wise price list is below:

    Renault Triber prices (ex-showroom, pan-India)
    ManualAMT
    RxERs 4.99 lakh-
    RxLRs 5.78 lakhRs 6.18 lakh
    RxTRs 6.28 lakhRs 6.68 lakh
    RxZRs 6.82 lakhRs 7.22 lakh

Besides the addition of the 5-speed AMT unit, the Triber is mechanically unchanged. Power still comes from a 72hp/96Nm, 1.0-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder engine. In BS4 petrol-manual form, the Triber had an ARAI-rated 20kpl mileage figure. It’ll be interesting to see how that has changed with the upgrade to BS6 norms and when the unit is paired with the new AMT gearbox. The Triber turbo, which will be powered by a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine making about 95hp, is in the pipeline though its launch is likely delayed by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and lockdown.

Features-wise, the Triber AMT is no different to the manual versions. The top-spec Triber RxZ continues to get four airbags, a rear camera, a rear defogger and wiper. Features on this variant include LED DRLs, 15-inch wheels, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and phone-based navigation, keyless entry and go and power adjustable wing mirrors. The party-piece of the Triber is its flexible seating arrangement which is standard across the range - it can go from being a 7-seater to a 3-seater thereby increasing luggage carrying capacity from 84 litres (with all the seats up) to over 1,000 litres (with all but three seats folded).

The closest rival to the Renault Triber is the Datsun Go+, which is priced between Rs 4.22 lakh and Rs 6.90 lakh and is also capable of seating seven. Unlike the Triber, the Go+ gets a CVT automatic option instead of a more cost-effective AMT unit.

However, on price and size, the Renault Triber is also pegged as a rival to petrol hatchbacks like the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios (Rs 5.06-7.69 lakh*), Maruti Suzuki Swift (Rs 5.19-8.02 lakh) and Ford Figo (Rs 5.39-6.95 lakh^).

*Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Turbo not considered

^Ford Figo does not get automatic variants
