A top Porsche official has revealed that the 911 will be the only fully internal combustion engined car on sale by 2030, according to a Reuters report. This comes after the brand's push to allow the continued sale of new ICE cars in the European Union from 2035 as long as they're running on e fuel.

    Porsche’s electrification plans

According to Karl Dums, team lead at Porsche's e fuel program, the brand will be electrifying most vehicles, with the Macan SUV being the first in line, followed by the iconic 718 and the popular Cayenne. Adding to this he threw light on the future of the 911 saying, "Our strategy in the first place is switching to electric mobility and we will produce the 911 as long as possible with a combustion engine." By 2030, the German automaker wants EVs to account for 80 percent of its overall car sales.

Last year, we reported that Porsche was working on a new generation of the Taycan and an all-electric Panamera as well.

    Porsche’s e fuel plans

In recent years, Porsche has invested $75 million (around Rs 619 crore) in Chilean firm Highly Innovative Fuels (HIF), but, according to Dums, HIF's e fuel plans are not interlinked with its electrification strategy. The e fuel development is focused more on the aviation industry and heavy vehicles. This comes as most companies have pledged a sizeable amount – almost Rs 100 lakh crore – towards the electrification of their line-up. E fuels will also be utilised for high-performance cars, with Porsche themselves running e fuel for "lighthouse" projects like the Supercup, as well as its customer-facing experience centres.

    Porsche in India

Porsche currently sells nine models in India, including the all-electric Taycan and Taycan Cross Tourismo. The newly launched Cayenne was globally unveiled with the option of a PHEV powertrain, however, that variant is not on sale in the country.
