Ahead of its much-awaited global debut, the third-generation Volkswagen Tiguan was sighted undisguised revealing the final design of the production-spec SUV. The new SUV is expected to be unveiled in the coming months, and go on sale in Europe first in the first quarter of 2024.

New Volkswagen Tiguan: what’s known so far?

Multiple spy shots shared on social media reveal the new Tiguan, sans camouflage, being filmed for a TV commercial in the Slovenian capital, Ljubljana. It sports chrome elements and a much smoother design compared to the current, second-generation Tiguan sold in India.

Specifications released earlier confirm that the new SUV is longer than its predecessor. It will be 4,551mm in length – an increase of 32mm from the current Tiguan. The third-gen Tiguan is also 5mm higher at 1,640mm, but sits on the same 2,681mm wheelbase as the outgoing model. The production-spec SUV seen in the photos is sporting a 5-spoke wheel design.

Volkswagen has said the new Tiguan will offer an additional 33 litres of boot space and has additional headroom and legroom as well. As far as features go, what’s known so far is that higher variants are expected to offer ventilated and massaging seats. It will also feature a 15.0-inch infotainment screen, much like the ID.7 electric sedan, and an updated windscreen HUD.

Expect Volkswagen to introduce the new Tiguan with a variety of powertrain options depending on the market. A 1.5-litre mild-hybrid TSI petrol engine is expected, alongside a 2.0-litre TSI petrol and TDI diesel engines. There will also be two plug-in hybrid powertrains expected to produce 201hp and 268hp respectively, and will come with a large 18.5kWh battery with a claimed all-electric range of 100km. Like the current gen Tiguan, the new third generation will also be available in both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options.

Volkswagen Tayron: India-bound Tiguan Allspace replacement

While there's no official confirmation on the third-gen Tiguan's India launch, an all-new three-row SUV based on the new Tiguan – called the Tayron – is headed to our market. Sitting alongside the Skoda Kodiaq, the VW Tayron will be a 7-seater SUV based on the MQB-A2 platform.

The Tayron will be a replacement for the Tiguan Allspacebut its styling will be completely different from the 5-seater Tiguan. It is expected to launch in India by early 2025 in limited numbers, but unlike the Tiguan Allspace, which was offered as an import, VW will assemble the Tayron in India through CKD kits.
