The all-new Honda Amaze compact sedan has been launched in India, with introductory prices starting from Rs. 8.00 lakh, going up to Rs 10.90 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the top-spec ZX trim. The Amaze is now in its third generation, arriving hot on the heels of the recently launched fourth-gen Maruti Dzire.

  1. New Honda Amaze continues with 90hp, 1.2-litre petrol engine
  2. Gets new 8-inch touchscreen, Honda Sensing ADAS features

Here’s a look at the detailed price list of the Amaze:

The new Amaze gets an all-new design that adopts the family look seen on the Elevate and City, and gets new interiors with lots more features. However, it remains mechanically the same as its predecessor. Test drives for the new Amaze begin today, and deliveries will also commence this month. Honda is providing a 3-year/unlimited km warranty as standard with the Amaze.

New Honda Amaze exterior design

The front end of the new Amaze looks like a shrunken, hunkered-down version of the Elevate SUV. In fact, the new headlamps with the brow-like LED daytime running lamps that are headlined by a sleek chrome trim look identical to that of the Elevate. The Amaze also gets a hexagonal grille, although it is shallower and sharper than the one seen on the SUV. The fog lamp surrounds and the central air dam on the well-sculpted bumper, however, look a lot closer to that of the City.

In profile, the new Amaze looks a lot sharper than its predecessor. There’s a strong character line that starts from the edge of the headlamps, going all the way across the length of the sedan. The wing mirrors have been relocated from the pillar to the door, and the 15-inch alloy wheel's new dual-tone design gives it a stylish look. The proportions also look spot on, which isn’t particularly easy to achieve in the sub-four-metre class.

The rear, again, makes the new Amaze look like a junior City, with a similar shape for the tail-lamps flanking the number plate housing. The rear bumper gets a clean look, with reflectors positioned at either edge. In adopting this family look, the new Amaze seems more mature than the outgoing sedan. The new Amaze is available in six exterior paint shades – Obsidian Blue Pearl, Radiant Red Metallic, Platinum White Pearl, Golden Brown Metallic, Meteoroid Gray Metallic and Lunar Silver Metallic.

New Honda Amaze interior and features

On the inside, the dashboard design is clearly inspired by the Elevate. It gets a smaller 8-inch free-standing touchscreen, but the HVAC controls, the semi-digital instrument cluster with a 7-inch MID, and the multi-function steering wheel are all borrowed from the Elevate. The centre console layout, too – with a wireless charging shelf, USB ports, and two cup holders – is identical to that of the Elevate. What’s unique here is a textured finish for the dashboard panel that also houses the AC vents. The dashboard gets a two-tone finish – a black and beige theme with some silver highlights.

In terms of equipment, the new Amaze gets LED projector headlamps and fog lamps, auto climate control, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charger, push button start/stop, three-point seat belts for all occupants, a rear seat arm rest, rear AC vents, and connected car features. Safety features include six airbags as standard, lane watch camera, hill start assist, traction control, ESC and the Honda Sensing ADAS suite. Honda claims the Amaze is the most affordable car with an ADAS suite in India. It, however, crucially misses out on a sunroof.

Honda says the new Amaze is wider and taller than its predecessor, and that has resulted in better cabin space. It has a boot space of 416 litres. Honda also claims they have significantly improved the AC performance for better cooling inside the cabin.

New Honda Amaze engine, specs

Under the hood, the new Amaze continues with the familiar 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine that comes paired to either a 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic transmission with paddle shifters. The engine produces 90hp and 110Nm of torque, which makes it slightly more powerful than the Dzire, but torque is marginally down. Honda claims a fuel efficiency of 18.65kpl for the manual variant, while the CVT automatic returns 19.46kpl.

New Honda Amaze rivals

The new Honda Amaze will continue to rival the Maruti Dzire, Hyundai Aura and the Tata Tigor. However, the Amaze is the only compact sedan that does not come with a factory-fitted CNG powertrain. Do note that CNG makes up the bulk of sales in the compact sedan segment, contributing more than 50 percent to Dzire’s sales and over 80 percent in case of the Aura.
