Suzuki will showcase a compressed biogas (CBG) variant of the Victoris at the upcoming Japan Mobility Show 2025, running from October 30 to November 9. The CBG variant gets the underbody dual-cylinder tank configuration seen on the CNG version, ensuring boot space remains unaffected.

  2. India launch not confirmed; Victoris is currently available in 21 variants

CBG technology and the Indian context

Compressed biogas and CNG share identical chemical compositions – both are compressed methane – but their sources differ fundamentally. CNG comes from fossil fuel deposits, whereas CBG results from anaerobic digestion of organic waste such as agricultural residue, cattle dung and municipal waste. This makes CBG a renewable fuel operating within a closed carbon cycle, where carbon is continuously reused.

For India, CBG holds strategic value given the abundant agricultural and dairy waste streams; yet, currently, no passenger vehicle in India is sold with a CBG powertrain. Maruti Suzuki has invested Rs 450 crore in renewable energy initiatives, including a biogas plant that commenced operations in 2024 at its Manesar facility.

Maruti Victoris India line-up

The Victoris was launched in September 2025, with 21 variants across three powertrains. The 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine, mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox, produces 103hp and 139Nm. Claimed efficiency is 21.18kpl for the manual and 21.06kpl for the automatic, while the all-wheel-drive versions deliver 19.07kpl.

The strong-hybrid option employs a Toyota-derived 1.5-litre petrol-electric setup producing a combined 116hp and 141Nm, linked to an e-CVT. Claimed efficiency touches 28.56kpl, making it the line-up’s least fuel-sipping choice.

S-CNG versions generate 89hp in CNG mode and are available only with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The CNG spec returns 27.02km/kg.

Victoris is retailed through Maruti’s Arena network and rivals the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder and Honda Elevate in the midsize SUV space. Its ex-showroom price is between Rs 10.50 lakh and Rs 19.99 lakh, with CNG variants starting at Rs 11.50 lakh.

All prices are ex-showroom, India.
