The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, crash-tested by Euro NCAP earlier this year, has now been tested by Bharat NCAP, where it has received a 5-star safety rating for both adult occupant protection (AOP) and child occupant protection (COP). The e Vitara SUV is the fourth Maruti car after the Dzire, Baleno and Invicto to be evaluated under the Indian safety assessment standards.

Bharat NCAP crash-tested the e Vitara’s top-spec Alpha variant with a 61kWh battery pack. However, the ratings also apply to the e-SUV’s Delta and Zeta trims with 49kWh and 61kWh battery pack options, respectively.

Frontal offset deformable barrier test: 15.49/16 points; side movable deformable barrier test: 16/16 points

In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, the e Vitara offered ‘good’ protection to the driver’s head, neck, pelvis, thighs and feet. The driver’s chest and tibias, however, received ‘adequate’ protection.
In the side movable deformable barrier and side pole impact (pole) tests, all critical parts of the occupant, including the head, chest, abdomen and pelvis, received ‘good’ protection.

In the COP tests, the child seats of both the 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies were rearward-facing. Both dummies scored full points in the frontal (8 out of 8) and side (4 out of 4) crash tests.
Although the e Vitara received a dynamic score of 24 out of 24 and a CRS installation score of 12 out of 12, it lost 6 points in the vehicle assessment, resulting in a total score of 43 points out of 49 in child occupant protection.

On the safety front, the e Vitara’s fully loaded Alpha trim features 7 airbags, a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, a tyre-pressure monitoring system (TPMS), ISOFIX child seat anchorages and an electronic parking brake with an auto-hold function. It is the second Maruti Suzuki car after the Victoris to feature Level 2 ADAS.

The e Vitara’s prime rival, the Mahindra BE 6, was also crash-tested by Bharat NCAP in January 2025, earning a 5-star safety rating in both adult and child protection. However, the BE 6 earned 0.49 points more in the AOP tests and 2 points more in the COP tests.
