The Maruti Dzire is India’s bestselling car in FY2026 (April 2025 to March 2026), with total sales of 2.3 lakh units. Despite SUVs accounting for 66 percent of the overall market during the fiscal year, the Dzire’s top spot in the sales chart indicates continued demand for sedans.
- Maruti held a 57.2 percent share of the sedan segment in FY26
- The carmaker also recorded its highest-ever annual sales in the fiscal year
Dzire’s sales performance supports Maruti’s multi-body-style strategy
Its success comes amid a shrinking sedan presence in the market
“Our sedan segment share was 45.8 percent in FY2017; today, it stands at 57.2 percent. At a time when SUVs are ruling the roost, with models being launched one after another and gaining volumes, a sedan emerging as the number one model is a significant achievement. It shows there are still customers who prefer sedans,” said Partho Banerjee, senior executive officer – marketing and sales at Maruti Suzuki.

Currently, the Dzire is the only sedan in Maruti Suzuki’s portfolio following the discontinuation of the Ciaz. “Many Ciaz customers are upgrading to SUVs or MPVs, while some are also considering the Dzire. We have not exited the sedan segment,” he said.
Banerjee added that, as the market leader, Maruti Suzuki will continue to maintain a presence across body styles while following a technologically agnostic approach.
The passenger car market is expected to grow by 5 percent
In FY2026, Maruti Suzuki reported its highest-ever total sales of around 24.23 lakh units, including domestic sales of over 18.61 lakh units and exports of around 4.48 lakh units. On this, Banerjee said the passenger car market is expected to grow by around 5 per cent in the current fiscal year (FY27).
