Lexus India has teased its upcoming RX SUV ahead of its debut at Auto Expo in January 2023. The fifth-generation RX, however, was unveiled globally back in June. Incidentally, this will be Lexus' first outing at the Auto Expo and will be one of two luxury carmakers at the event.

The Japanese carmaker has also confirmed that the upcoming SUV will be available in two variants and will be its first model to get connected car technology. Lexus also mentioned that the RX’s engine will have more power and better efficiency than the outgoing model.

    New Lexus RX: exterior design

The RX will adopt Lexus’ New Chapter design language and emulates the 'spindle body’ appearance of the new RZ electric SUV. Its dimensions have also increased: wheelbase has been extended by 6mm; the roofline is lowered by 10mm; and it gets a 15mm and 40mm wider track at the front and rear, respectively.

Lexus said the RX’s new dimensions give it a “coupe-like feel”, and it also gets LED headlamps with a sleeker design. Range-topping models will get some visual distinction with bespoke styling elements all around.

New Lexus RX: interior and features

Moreover, the new RX will feature a 14-inch touchscreen along with wireless charging and Apple CarPlay, although Android Auto is wired. Lexus has chosen vegan synthetic leather for the upholstery inside.

It also gets a more minimalist and driver-focused format, in line with Lexus’ ethos of ‘hands on the wheel, eyes on the road’. It has proactive driver assistance systems as well as touch controls that can be viewed and adjusted with minimal eye contact and head movement.

    New Lexus RX: powertrains

Globally, the new RX is offered with three engine options – 350h, 450h+ and 500h. While all of these are hybrid powertrains, only the 450h+ is a plug-in hybrid. India is expected to get the 350h that gets a 2.5-litre engine with strong hybrid tech that produces 245hp and 324Nm torque.
