I own a Mercedes-Benz E250 CDI (May 2014) that has covered only 63,000 km. I am thinking of replacing it. Which brand and model would you recommend among the Mercedes-Benz GLE, BMW X5, and Lexus RX, and why? My priorities are high reliability and low servicing costs, as the Mercedes-Benz E250 CDI has been disappointing.

Hi, I am planning to buy a new car and am confused between the Kia Seltos HTX (A) DCT and the Tata Safari Adventure Plus. Go for the Kia Seltos HTX(A) DCT. At 15,000 km a year with a mix of city and highway driving, the Seltos is the more sensible choice. This Kia car is easier to drive in the city, more efficient and still comfortable on long trips. The DCT gearbox is quick but a bit jerky in traffic, but the car feels premium inside, which you already like. The Tata Safari has great road presence and more space, but this Tata car is a much bigger car to live with every day and does not feel as well-finished inside. The Seltos is the better all-rounder for your usage.

The MG Hector Tomahawk EV is the one to go for if you need a third row, comfortable seats and a spacious boot. Just check how much luggage space remains with all three rows in use.Otherwise, we’d recommend the Mahindra XEV 9e. It’s the stronger overall product, with better performance, better ride and handling, and a more impressive spread of features. Its cabin is comfortable too, but feels more refined and far more plush than the Tomahawk’s.The MG, in comparison, feels rather ordinary, with exterior and interior designs that don’t particularly stand out. On the road, its front-wheel-drive layout doesn’t deliver the same balanced, satisfying driving experience as the rear-wheel-drive 9e. That’s a comparison between these two cars, rather than a blanket judgement on front-wheel drive.If you don’t need seven seats, this Mahindra car would be our pick. And if a third row is essential, we’d recommend considering the Mahindra XEV 9S as well. We think it’s an even better option and worth a back-to-back test drive with the Tomahawk before you decide.

The best all-rounder of these three is the BMW X5, as it offers the best engines, a good mix of driver enjoyment and comfort, great interior space for five, the latest tech and the widest dealer network. Its two six-cylinder engines - a petrol and a diesel - offer a superb mix of power and refinement, and whichever you choose, it feels well suited to a luxury SUV of this size and price.The Range Rover Velar is pretty good value if you don't require too much space. It's half a size smaller than the others, and thus not as roomy, and its four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines aren't as powerful, smooth or refined as the BMW's sixes. It's the more stylish choice, but it is starting to show its age now.The Volvo XC90 is also starting to show its age, but a recent facelift means it has received the latest in Volvo's in-cabin tech. It's the only one here to get a third row of seats, and luxury and the features list are pretty good too. However, its 2.0-litre petrol engine doesn't feel strong enough for the SUV's size and it's not as comfortable or refined as the BMW.

I am a 6 ft driver who loves driving. I've driven the Swift 2013 petrol, Creta 1.6 Diesel Auto and the XUV500 the most on long trips. Now that I am planning to buy a car with a strict budget, do you think the 3XO AX5 TCMPFI petrol variant will be a wise decision to make, as I will be travelling once a month for short trips from Bangalore to Coorg, Pondicherry, GOA, and Mangalore? Hello, I want to upgrade from my current Dzire diesel (2009 model). My running is nearly 7 thousand which is very low. My budget is 10 lakh mostly within city driven but with few highway trips every quarter. So please suggest some reliable comfortable car. I have taken the test drive of Maruti Suzuki Fronx AGS but space in the back is also an issue. I have also taken the test drive of Brezza Turbo and I found it smooth and easy . Anything else I should go for ?

With just around 7,000km a year, mostly in the city, a simple petrol car makes much more sense than a diesel. Since you have already driven the Brezza and found it smooth and easy to drive, it would be my first choice. The new 1.0 litre Booster jet is refined, has good low speed tractability and is more than adequate for your occasional highway trips. We also found it impressively efficient, with the onboard computer showing 11 to 14kpl even during hard driving.One important point, though: the new Brezza 1.0 Turbo is manual only. If you are looking for an automatic, the 1.5 litre petrol is still the only Brezza powertrain with an automatic, and that pushes the price beyond your Rs. 10 lakh budget.
