Hyundai’s luxury brand Genesis has showcased the Electrified GV70 at the Guangzhou motor show. The ICE-powered Genesis GV70 is actually based on the Hyundai Tucson and now this all-electric variant comes with a maximum output of 482hp and a range of more than 500km. Genesis claims the new Electrified GV70 will set “a new standard for luxury electric SUVs”.

  • Genesis claims a driving range of more than 500km for electrified GV70
  • Charges from 10-80 percent in just 18 minutes using a rapid charger
  • Sprints from 0-100kph in just 4.5 seconds in Boost mode

Genesis Electrified GV70: what is it?

The all-electric GV70 is powered by two electric motors, one on each axle, thereby giving it four-wheel-drive capability. Each electric motor produces 214hp and 350Nm of torque on each axle. Maximum power output is pegged at 482hp and 700Nm, resulting in a 0-100kph time of 4.5sec when the SUV is in Boost mode.

Genesis claims a competitive range of more than 500km and an estimated real-world figure of 399km, according to Korean EV certification standards. The Electrified GV70 can be charged from 10-80 percent in just 18 minutes when using a 350kW rapid charger.

It will be the first Genesis model to be fitted with a new E-Terrain mode for improved driving in more challenging environments. Several other changes have come to improve the driving experience, too, including a system that reduces road noise and electronic control suspension that adapts based on data collected by a front-mounted camera.

One-pedal driving is also possible, thanks to smart regenerative braking. The show car's Glacier White interior features a host of eco-friendly materials. In terms of design, however, there isn’t much separating the electrified GV70 from its ICE sibling, the only difference being a new sealed-off grille, slightly revised bumpers and new design for the alloy wheels.

The Electrified GV70 is one of five cars the Hyundai-owned luxury brand is presenting in Guangzhou, alongside the G70 sedan, G70 estate, G80 sedan and GV80 SUV.

Genesis for India

As we have previously reported in 2019, Genesis was looking to enter the Indian market, with its first model slated to be an SUV. The Korean brand currently has four SUVs on sale globally – the GV60, above-mentioned GV70, new Electrified GV70 and the GV80. While there is no confirmation regarding which would be the first model to enter our market, the Genesis G80 sedan was spotted on Indian roads earlier this year.
