Based on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB Evo platform, it is the spiritual successor to the much-acclaimed Mk1 Octavia vRS of the early 2000s and the next step up from the previous-generation Octavia RS. Considering the low volumes earmarked for India, the Octavia RS continues to be fully imported.

The engine powering the Skoda Octavia RS is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol with 265hp and 370Nm, all of which is channelled to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch (DSG) automatic transmission. This capable powertrain is essentially the same one that is found in the much more compact and lighter Volkswagen Golf GTI hot hatchback.
3. How fast is the Skoda Octavia RS?
The Skoda Octavia RS has an electronically limited top speed of 250kph, which makes it almost as fast as the Golf GTI at the top end. In terms of its acceleration, Skoda claims a 0-100kph time of 6.4 seconds for the Octavia RS. During our time testing it, the Volkswagen Golf GTI managed the same feat in a brisk 5.9 seconds.
