It’s hard to remember the last time there was more hype and anticipation for a new SUV launch. Ever since Mahindra unveiled its radical electric-origin INGLO architecture a couple of years ago, expectations soared for the groundbreaking technology it would bring to market. With a massive 80kWh battery, fast-charging capabilities of up to 175kW, and sophisticated vehicle dynamics, the stage was set for something truly special. It looks like a radical concept SUV that’s somehow escaped the design lab and made its way to the streets. The visual drama continues when you pull the flush-fitting door handles and step inside. Dominating the cabin is a massive ‘superscreen’ – a wide 3-in-1 setup consisting of a digital instrument cluster, a large touchscreen infotainment system, and a segment-first passenger touchscreen. Lending it flair is a new two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Mahindra logo. This is where you access smart drive features like Boost mode - which unleashes all 286hp and 380Nm for blistering overtakes, and one-pedal driving for seamless urban commuting. The XEV 9e dispatches 0-100kph in just 6.8 seconds, making this full-size five-seater SUV feel light on its feet.
Power, Precision, and Poise
Thanks to its adaptive intelligent suspension, ride quality is a major highlight of the XEV 9e. The setup not only flattens potholes with ease but also provides remarkable stability and control. Its high-profile tyres add to the plushness, while the low centre of gravity, courtesy of the battery pack mounted beneath the floor, keeps body roll impressively low. This translates into sure-footed dynamics and a planted feel through corners, proving that the XEV 9e is as refined in motion as it is in design.
Typically, EV platforms come with a trade-off: a high floor that compromises comfort. But Mahindra’s clever packaging eliminates this issue. Seating comfort is excellent in both rows, with easy ingress and egress, ample space, and high-quality materials contributing to a plush, indulgent cabin feel.
Brains Behind the Brawn
Where the XEV 9e truly experiences suave intelligence is inside the cabin, where every function is orchestrated by MAIA — the Mahindra Artificial Intelligence Architecture. This Ethernet-based electrical backbone powers all digital interfaces, from the instrument cluster to the infotainment suite and the passenger screen. It enables seamless operation of Level 2+ ADAS features, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 360-degree camera views, and much more.
A 16-speaker, 1400W Harman Kardon sound system with Dolby Atmos delivers a cinematic audio experience, turning every drive into an event. And speaking of advanced tech, safety here is futuristic in every sense. You get Vision X — Mahindra’s next-gen perception suite — and Eyedentity, an advanced facial recognition system that enables secure, personalised experiences. This is safety and convenience redefined.
Efficiency With Intelligence
Under the skin, the XEV 9e continues to experience suave indulgence. Its 79kWh battery enables an MIDC-certified range of 656km. But more importantly, real-world testing in metro conditions shows the SUV can deliver over 500km on a single charge - a benchmark that sets it apart. This is made possible by not just battery capacity, but intelligent software governing battery management and regenerative braking. There are three regen levels to choose from - including one-pedal drive - making the SUV adaptable to every driving style.
For those with more urban or budget-conscious needs, Mahindra also offers the XEV 9e with a 59kWh battery pack, that has an MIDC-certified range of 542km - and a real world range of 400km. This ensures the electric Xperience is more accessible than ever before.
