Luxury car buyers have more choice than ever, but finding a vehicle that combines the space of a luxury MPV with the benefits of electric mobility remains difficult. The MG M9 addresses that gap. As India's only all-electric luxury MPV, it brings together two propositions that have largely existed separately in the market: chauffeur-oriented passenger comfort and electric driving.

The M9 has also found an audience for this combination, with 3,000 units sold in just over a year, making it the best-selling luxury MPV in the country. Its significance, then, goes beyond adding another luxury vehicle to the market. It offers a different way to approach premium mobility.

A New Niche

Luxury MPVs serve a particular purpose. They prioritise passenger space, easy access and the ability to travel comfortably, making them well suited to buyers who spend a considerable amount of time being driven. The M9 retains these priorities but departs from convention with its electric powertrain.

That distinction matters because the choice is not simply between an electric car and a conventional luxury MPV. The M9 brings electric propulsion to a body style built around carrying people, giving buyers who want both a dedicated option rather than a compromise between different vehicle types.

Power To Go

MG M9 rear trackingSilent and smooth, the M9 can go an ARAI-rated 548km on a single charge.

At the heart of the M9 is a 90kWh battery paired with a front-mounted electric motor that produces 245hp and 350Nm of torque. The claimed ARAI range stands at 548km, putting longer journeys within its intended scope, rather than limiting its appeal to short urban commutes.

Electric propulsion also changes the character of the drive. Power delivery is smooth and immediate, while the absence of a conventional engine brings a quieter experience for occupants. In a vehicle designed around travelling in comfort, these qualities are more than just technical advantages; they directly shape the experience of being on the move.

Space To Spare

The M9's 5.2-metre length and 3.2-metre wheelbase provide the foundations for its three-row, seven-seat layout. Rather than treating passenger accommodation as an extension of a conventional car, the MPV format puts it at the centre of the vehicle's design.

The second row features two Presidential captain's chairs with extensive electric adjustment, heating, ventilation, massage functions and extendable leg rests. Beyond these, the cabin includes individual amenities across the rows, including dedicated air-conditioning vents and USB connectivity for third-row occupants. The emphasis is on making the vehicle work as a people-mover for all seven occupants, not just those in the most luxurious seats.

The Bigger Picture

MG M9 speedbreakerThe M9 combines the best parts of owning a luxury EV and the practicality of an MPV.

The M9's equipment supports its role as a kuxury vehicle, with a 13-speaker JBL sound system, a panoramic dual sunroof, 64-colour ambient lighting, a digital cockpit and wireless smartphone connectivity. A 360-degree camera helps with manoeuvring, while seven airbags and Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems bring active and passive safety into the picture. Its five-star Euro NCAP rating adds to its safety credentials.

Yet the M9's defining feature is not any single item of equipment. It is the combination of a spacious, chauffeur-friendly format and an electric powertrain in a segment where buyers have had limited choice. By bringing these elements together in one package, the MG M9 creates a distinct proposition in India's luxury car market, one aimed at buyers who want their next step in luxury to be electric, without giving up the space and practicality of an MPV.

On Cloud M9

From its lounge-like second-row seating to the quiet refinement of its electric powertrain, the MG M9 combines space, comfort, technology and safety to make a compelling case for a new kind of luxury travel.
