The 2026 facelift of the Hyundai Exter brings changes both inside and out, along with a longer features list. As a result, prices have also increased – by Rs 16,000 at the base level and Rs 2,000 at the top end. Mechanically, though, the sub-compact SUV remains unchanged and continues to go up directly against the Tata Punch. So, how much has the new Exter changed compared to the outgoing model? That is what we look at here.
Hyundai Exter new vs old: Exterior
At the front, the Exter gets a new bumper with rectangular inserts and a silver U-shaped trim, and the 'EXTER' badge has been moved from the bumper to the black trim that connects the headlights. However, the H-shaped DRLs and projector halogen headlamps continue unchanged.
In profile, the facelift gets chunkier cladding with faux screw inserts, similar to the Pro Pack version of the earlier Exter. There is also a new design for the 15-inch alloy wheels and a new C-pillar garnish. At the rear, the facelift gets a wing-type spoiler, while the trim linking the tail-lights and the bumper below has been revised. Furthermore, Hyundai has added two new exterior colour choices – Golden Bronze and Titanium Black Matte. Other available shades include Starry Night, Titan Grey, Titanium Black, Atlas White, Ranger Khaki and the latter's dual-tone equivalent.
Hyundai Exter new vs old: Interior and features
Inside, the overall layout stays the same, but Hyundai has changed the colour theme. The outgoing all-black cabin is replaced by a dual-tone navy blue and grey finish. The facelift also gets a carbon-fibre-style dashboard trim, a flat-bottom steering wheel and metal pedals, while the seats feature new semi-fabric upholstery and fresh textures.
On the features front, the driver's seat now comes with a dedicated armrest, and rear passengers get a Type-C USB port. As before, both the driver's display and touchscreen continue to measure 8 inches each. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto remain wired, though smartphone connectivity can be made wireless with an adapter. Other features such as cruise control, automatic climate control, wireless charging and the single-pane sunroof continue as well.
Safety
Safety equipment includes 6 airbags, ESC, hill-start assist control and central locking as standard. Higher variants feature a dashcam, a rear parking camera, automatic headlamps, and more.
Hyundai Exter new vs old: Powertrains
Under the hood, the 2026 Exter continues with its 1.2-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that makes peak outputs of 83hp and 114Nm. It's offered with either a 5-speed manual or AMT. The factory-fitted dual-cylinder CNG kit continues as well, with the tanks placed under the boot floor for improved space. In CNG form, the Exter produces 69hp and 95Nm and is offered only with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Hyundai now also provides a spare wheel in the CNG version, mounted under the car.
Hyundai Exter new vs old: Price
The new Hyundai Exter is priced between Rs 5.80 lakh and Rs 9.40 lakh, ex-showroom, compared to Rs 5.64 lakh to Rs 9.38 lakh for the outgoing model. With this update, Hyundai has also adopted its new variant nomenclature, running from HX2 to HX10, as seen on the new-generation Venue and, most recently, the Verna facelift. The price increase feels justified given the added features, and the Exter continues to be a well-rounded package overall.
