With the newly introduced Bayon, Hyundai adds another nameplate to its India lineup. The Bayon sits between the Venue and Creta in Hyundai’s portfolio. Because of its positioning, the Bayon’s prices significantly overlap with the Venue's. If you have a budget of Rs 15 lakh, should you go for a fully loaded Venue or move to the bigger, but mid-spec Bayon? We find out. For this comparison, we’ve picked the Bayon’s mid-level HX6 trim and Venue’s top-of-the-line HX10 trim in their respective petrol automatic versions.
Hyundai Bayon mid-spec vs Venue top spec: Dimensions
Because the Venue belongs to the compact segment, the Bayon outnumbers it in all dimensions excluding height. The latter is 250mm longer, 10mm wider, has an 80mm longer wheelbase, rides 15mm higher, and gets the larger boot by 130 litres. However, the former is substantially taller by 60mm.
Hyundai Bayon mid-spec vs Venue top spec: Powertrain options and specs
The Bayon is solely powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 115hp and 144Nm. It can either be paired with a 6-speed manual or a CVT gearbox. On the other hand, the Venue in top-spec guise offers a smaller yet more powerful and efficient 120hp, 172Nm turbo-petrol engine paired with a 7-speed DCT.
Hyundai Bayon mid-spec vs Venue top spec: Exterior features
On the exterior front, the Bayon and Venue are equally equipped with LED light setups, puddle lamps, roof rails, a spoiler, powered ORVMs, and monotone and dual-tone paint options. The only difference is the fact that the Bayon’s alloy wheels are a size larger than the Venue’s. However, neither SUV gets fog lamps.
Hyundai Bayon mid-spec vs Venue top spec: Interior features
The mid-level Bayon doesn't match the top-end Venue when you compare their equipment lists. The former gets only a larger panoramic sunroof and telescopic steering adjustment, while the latter gets larger and hi-res screens, a powered driver seat, front seat ventilation, rear window sunshades, and leatherette seat upholstery, among other features.
Hyundai Bayon mid-spec vs Venue top spec: Driving features
Driving features like paddle shifters and drive modes are common on both the Bayon and the Venue. The Bayon additionally gets a dash boost mode that automatically enables quicker engine response when the accelerator is depressed hard. Meanwhile, the Venue comes with dedicated terrain modes and adaptive cruise control.
Hyundai Bayon mid-spec vs Venue top spec: Safety features
Even on the safety front, the Venue outclasses the Bayon with a level 2 ADAS suite, 360-degree camera, additional parking sensors, rear disc brakes, and an auto-dimming IRVM. Hyundai says that the Bayon is undergoing BNCAP testing; the Venue has already achieved a 5-star rating.
Hyundai Bayon mid-spec vs Venue top spec: Prices and verdict
The Bayon mid-spec CVT is priced at Rs 14.98 lakh, while the Venue top-end DCT retails slightly lower at Rs 14.67 lakh. Between the two, it's the Venue that we’d pick. Apart from being the more affordable option, the Venue brings a more powerful engine, much more equipment, and safety features. Though the larger Bayon will be more spacious, the Venue still offers a reasonable amount of room, and the feature surplus is hard to ignore. Moreover, the Venue’s city-friendly compact dimensions should help navigate around town more easily.
