Tata Tiago FAQs

Being a compact and economical hatchback that’s also easy to drive, the Tata Tiago continues to provide a good value quotient. Moreover, with its chic styling, premium-looking interior and a lengthy equipment list, the Tiago is one of the most sorted hatchbacks right now.

If you want a manual gearbox and a standard petrol engine with the Tata Tiago, then the Creative trim will offer you almost all of the feature set that you’d need in day-to-day life without spending too much. On the other hand, if you want the frugality of CNG with the user-friendliness of an AMT gearbox, then picking the Pure + A trim would give you many useful features without having to spend more for the top-spec CNG-AMT variant.

The Tiago is the cheapest Tata car currently on sale in India.

Considering a 10 percent down payment and 7-year loan tenure, the Tiago EMI starts at Rs 7,401 in Delhi.

Hello, Autocar India Team. I am a first-time car buyer with a budget of Rs 6-12 lakh. I am looking for a petrol automatic hatchback or micro SUV. I am a new driver, so I want something that is easy to drive and fuel-efficient. I have shortlisted the Tata Altroz DCA/AMT, Tata Punch AMT, Tata Tiago AMT, Maruti Suzuki Swift AMT, Maruti Suzuki Baleno AMT, Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor AMT and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios AMT. I am confused between these options. Which one would you recommend for my requirements?

Go for the Maruti Suzuki Baleno AMT. As a first-time buyer, your priorities are ease of driving, fuel efficiency and a stress-free ownership experience, and the Baleno delivers on all three. It is one of the easiest cars to drive in the city thanks to its light controls and smooth AMT, and it is also one of the most fuel-efficient cars in this segment. This Maruti Suzuki car also offers a spacious cabin and a comfortable ride, making it a car you can grow into as your needs evolve. Maruti's service network and low maintenance costs further add to the ownership peace of mind. The Tata Altroz DCA is the better automatic gearbox, but the Baleno's AMT is smooth enough for city driving, and the overall ownership experience is stronger. The Tata Punch and Tiago are good value, but the Baleno feels more premium and spacious. The Swift is fun to drive but not as spacious as the Baleno and costs nearly as much. The Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor is essentially the same car as the Baleno underneath, and if you need the additional ground clearance or prefer its looks, it is a solid choice too. The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios is a strong alternative with a smooth AMT, but the Baleno offers a more spacious cabin.Overall, the Baleno AMT is the most balanced choice for a first-time buyer looking for ease of driving, fuel efficiency and long-term peace of mind.

Hi, I’m looking to buy a hatchback as a first-time buyer. I liked the new Tata Tiago AMT petrol, as my initial running will be under 500km a month. I shortlisted it over the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R and Celerio mainly because of its safety features. Speed and performance are not major concerns, as both my wife and I are new to driving. Is the Tiago AMT the right choice for our needs? Please advise, particularly in terms of maintenance costs and overall cost of ownership.

Yes, the Tata Tiago AMT petrol is a sensible choice for a first-time buyer with low running. With under 500 km a month, petrol is the right fuel, and the Tiago offers a good balance of safety features, a solid build and a comfortable driving experience. The Tiago also feels stable and confidence-inspiring, which is important for new drivers. That said, it is worth being aware that Tata's service experience can be inconsistent depending on the city and dealership, and long-term reliability is not quite at the level of Maruti. The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R and Celerio are both more proven from a maintenance and ownership cost perspective, with Maruti's service network and parts availability being a clear advantage. However, the Tiago feels like a more substantial car and offers better safety credentials, which is why you have gravitated towards it. If you have a reliable Tata service centre nearby, it is a perfectly reasonable choice.

How much should I pay for my Tiago interior cleaning? Never got them cleaned. Can I go with some random cleaners and washers?

I already have a Maruti Baleno and want to buy a second car. I have shortlisted the Tata Tiago Pure Plus and the Tata Punch Pure Plus. Which one should I buy for mostly daily commuting in Delhi city?

Go for the Punch Pure Plus. Since you already have a Maruti Baleno, the Tata Punch makes more sense as a second car dedicated to daily city commuting in Delhi. It is compact, but has a higher seating position than the Tiago, which helps when manoeuvring in tight spaces and parking. It is also easier to get in and out of, and the cabin will feel roomier. The Tiago will be more fuel-efficient and less expensive, but overall the Punch is the more rounded vehicle between the two.

I am confused between the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios Sportz AMT, Maruti Suzuki Swift AMT, and Tata Tiago Pure+ AMT. My usage will be low to moderate, including city driving as well as occasional highway drives, and I am a first-time car buyer and driver. Based on my driving requirements, should I consider a CNG variant or stick to my original plan of buying a petrol car? Please help me choose the best car in this price range and also suggest any other suitable alternatives available.

For a first-time buyer with low to moderate city and highway use, stick to a petrol car. Our recommendation will be the Maruti Swift AMT over the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios AMT. Your running does not justify the added cost and compromises of a CNG car, and the Maruti Swift strikes the best balance for your needs. This Maruti Suzuki car is easy to drive, has a smooth and refined petrol engine, a comfortable ride and a well-built, practical cabin. The AMT is one of the smoother units in the segment, making it a confidence-inspiring choice for a new driver. This Hyundai car isn't as good as the Swift when it comes to ride comfort and even rear seat space. The Tata Tiago AMT is the value pick, but the cabin and overall refinement are not at the same level. That said, if you want a slightly larger and more premium feeling car, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno AMT is also worth considering, but it will stretch the budget. If you don't want to stretch the Swift is the most well-rounded and easiest car to live with in this range.
