Between the Kiger and the Magnite, which one has actually aged better design-wise 3 years after launch? Curious what the general consensus is now versus at launch.

I am confused between the Hyundai Exter HX3, Hyundai i20, Nissan Magnite and Tata Punch. My main requirement is a superior cabin, and my budget is around Rs 9.5 lakh. Which one would be the better choice?

Go for the Hyundai Exter. Your priority is a superior cabin, and the Exter delivers the most premium and well-finished interior of your shortlist. It also offers a higher seating position, better visibility and a more modern feature set than the Hyundai i20, while still being easy to drive in the city. The i20 is a good car, but at Rs 9.5 lakh you will be limited to lower variants, and the Exter feels like a more complete package at this price point. The Nissan Magnite and Tata Punch are both strong value propositions, but the Exter's cabin quality and overall refinement are a step above. The Punch's naturally aspirated petrol engine is also not as refined or as punchy as the Exter's unit. Overall, the Exter strikes the best balance between cabin quality, comfort and value within your budget.

I am a first-time car buyer looking at used cars under a tight budget of Rs 4-5 lakh. I want an automatic premium hatchback or compact SUV, mainly for city use with an occasional long drive once every two months. High ground clearance would be a plus for my aged parents, although I understand that may not be possible at this budget. I am considering the Hyundai i20 Elite, Maruti Baleno/Toyota Glanza, Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger. However, I am avoiding the Magnite and Kiger because of concerns about maintenance and serviceability. Which would be the better option?

For a first-time buyer with a Rs 4-5 lakh budget, city use and occasional long drives, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno or Toyota Glanza automatic is the safest and most sensible choice. Both use a simple AMT gearbox, which is not the smoothest but is reliable, easy to maintain and well-suited to city driving. Maruti's service network is the strongest in the country, and Toyota's service experience is also excellent, so long-term ownership is unlikely to throw up surprises. The Baleno and Glanza are also among the most spacious premium hatchbacks, with good rear seat comfort and easy ingress and egress for elderly parents. The Hyundai i20 Elite automatic is also a good option, and it has a CVT, which is smoother than Maruti's AMT. However, the Baleno/Glanza's lower running costs and wider service reach give them the edge in this budget. The Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger are not bad cars, but their service networks are not as extensive, and long-term ownership confidence is not as strong as Maruti or Toyota in this price range. If you want a slightly higher seat for your parents, consider the Maruti Ignis AMT; however, the Baleno is roomier inside. Alternatively, consider a slightly older Brezza.Overall, the Baleno or Glanza automatic is the best fit for your needs. They are reliable, easy to maintain, comfortable for family use and well supported across the country.

Currently using a 2007 Chevrolet Aveo U-VA, I am looking to buy a good automatic SUV for around Rs 11 lakh. No AMT. I need an all-rounder car, as I am more of a practical user than a car guy. The Nissan Magnite N Connecta CVT and Renault Kiger Techno CVT are the front-runners. Is spending around Rs 2 lakh more for something like the Venue HX5 DCT worth it? Are there better options?

Verified

Go for the Nissan Magnite N Connecta CVT. It is the best fit for your requirements. The CVT is smooth and well suited to your practical usage. This Nissan car is also well priced, offers good space and is a genuinely good all-rounder. The Renault Kiger Techno CVT is mechanically identical, so the choice between the two comes down to personal preference and your proximity to their service network.Spending Rs 2 lakh more for the Hyundai Venue HX5 DCT is not worth it in your case. The DCT is a more performance-oriented gearbox and is not as smooth or as stress-free in city driving as a CVT. The Venue is a good car, but the extra money is better spent on a higher variant of the Magnite or Kiger. If you are open to stretching your budget slightly, the Mahindra XUV 3XO AT is worth considering. It is a slightly larger car, with better highway performance and a genuinely strong all-rounder.Overall, the Magnite N Connecta CVT is the most sensible and practical choice for your needs.
