Hi everyone! I have a strict budget of Rs. 9 lakh and I'm looking for an automatic car with good safety. So far, I've shortlisted the Hyundai Exter, Tata Punch, Renault Kiger, and Nissan Magnite. Which one would you recommend and why? I'd really appreciate your suggestions, especially if you own or have driven any of these cars. Thanks!

The Hyundai Exter AMT would be the best choice for your requirements. It is the most refined car here, has a smooth four cylinder petrol engine, is easy to drive in city traffic and comes with a comfortable ride. Hyundai's extensive service network and hassle free ownership experience are added advantages, especially if this is going to be your long term family car.The Tata Punch AMT is the next best option if safety is your absolute top priority. It feels more robust, has higher ground clearance and is better suited to rough roads, although the AMT isn't as smooth as the Exter's and Tata's service experience can vary from city to city.

My budget is around 12 lakh (possibly through a corporate car lease). I am considering the 2026 Nissan Magnite CVT, Renault Kiger CVT and Honda Amaze CVT. I believe the top variants of all three fit my budget, but I am confused about which one to choose. My usage will be mostly in the city, with occasional trips outside, and I am a new driver.

Mostly city use, a few trips out of town, first-time driver, and Rs 12 lakh to work with; in that situation, we would pick the Nissan Magnite Turbo CVT, ideally the top CVT trim that fits your lease budget. The Nissan Magnite price starts at 5.65 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The CVT is seamless and keeps things smooth, which makes stop-and-go traffic much easier, and the turbo has good pull for the highway. It sits higher and gives you a better view of the road, and the steering is light, so squeezing into tight lanes or parking is simple.A couple of trade-offs to note are that Nissan’s service network is smaller than Honda’s, so check how close the dealer and workshop are in your city. Also, the cabin feels basic in some areas compared to pricier cars. The Honda Amaze has a very refined engine and smooth CVT, so it is great if you like an easy, relaxed drive. The flip side is that you sit lower and ground clearance is less than the other two, and performance is milder on highways with a full load, and the Honda Amaze price starts at Rs 7.51 lakh (ex-showroom). The Renault Kiger Turbo CVT is very similar to the Magnite in how it drives. Pick it if you prefer its look or if the Renault car dealer is closer or gives a better deal.Overall, for your city-first use and as a new driver, this Nissan car lines up best.

I am a first-time buyer, although I have previously driven a Maruti Suzuki Baleno. My on-road budget is around ₹8 lakh. My priorities are comfort, safety, mileage, and a strong road presence. I am considering the Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger, but their sales figures and service network make me a bit sceptical. I am also open to cars from other brands. Please suggest some good options within my budget, keeping my priorities in mind.

Go for the new Tata Punch Pure MT. At your Rs 8 lakh on-road budget, it offers a good balance of safety, ride comfort and SUV-like road presence.Since you have prioritised safety and comfort, the Punch’s five-star Bharat NCAP rating is reassuring, and comfort levels are good too. The suspension is well sorted, delivering good ride quality and stable handling. The cabin is also spacious for a car in this class, and the seats are well cushioned with good thigh support, though the rear seat can feel a little narrow for three passengers. It also has the SUV-like road presence you are looking for, and the 187mm ground clearance is useful. The one trade-off is highway performance; the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine needs downshifts for quick overtakes above 80kph, so you will need to plan overtakes more carefully. If you prioritise a smoother engine and a wider rear seat for family trips over an SUV stance, consider the Maruti Baleno instead. On the test drive, check for engine refinement and cabin noise at speed, ride comfort over rough roads, and acceleration.
