As an owner, I find the driving dynamics and steering feedback to be the best in the segment. The cabin is spacious, and it has the best naturally aspirated engine in the segment. Factory fitted Alpine speakers are good, though they don't get much recognition. The AC performance is one of the best in class. However, the CVT is smooth but not suitable for aggressive drivers. Tyre noise can be annoying on bad roads. Under thigh support and overall seat comfort are not the best in the segment. The Alpine infotainment system disconnects when transitioning from 4G to 5G, though some improvement was made with a software update. The back row middle hump makes it comfortable for only two people in the rear seat. Must-have features like TPMS are sold as accessories. My experience with the Honda service centre was not great.

I am looking to buy a new AMT car to replace my 9-year-old Hyundai Grand i10. My budget is Rs, 8 lakh (on-road price). I am confused between Maruti Suzuki WagonR ZXi Plus 1.2 Petrol AMT and Hyundai Exter HX3 AMT. The car will also be driven by my father, who is 70 years old. Both cars have a good seating position and offer easy ingress and egress. The WagonR offers better fuel efficiency, even with E20 petrol, along with electrically adjustable and foldable ORVMs, rear power windows, and a rear wiper. The Exter, on the other hand, has a more modern design, higher ground clearance, a reverse camera, and driver seat height adjustment. The car will be driven mostly in the city. Which one should I choose?

Given your knee surgery and low running, go for the turbo automatic version because it is much smoother in traffic and takes the stress off your left leg completely. Be aware that the turbo automatic will sip a bit more fuel than your current manual. If you are on a tight budget, then the naturally aspirated Magnite can be had with an AMT, though it isn't the smoothest-shifting AMT out there. If you are looking for alternatives, then the Hyundai Exter AMT or the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R AMT could be good choices. A mid-spec VXi with the 1.0-litre engine and AMT would be the ideal combination. The VXi has all the basic features covered, and the AMT takes away the stress of shifting gears. If you do not like the Wagon R’s tall-boy stance, then the Celerio is a strong alternative, though getting in and out is not quite as easy.Some honest caveats with the Wagon R are that it is not particularly settled on the highway, and the interior can feel a bit basic. If you do a lot of highway driving or want a more premium-looking interior, then the Tata Tiago is the better bet.

For elderly parents it’s the easiest to get in and out of, thanks to the tall seat and wide doors, and its boot is the biggest in your Rs. 6-7 lakh band, so weekend luggage is no fuss. The automatic is an AMT or automated manual transmission, which is not as smooth and seamless as other types of automatics but as as far as AMT's go it does the job quite well, plus it delivers a very good mileage. Just know it feels light and a bit bouncy at higher highway speeds, so keep cruising sensible. If he wants something that feels tougher on the highway, the Tata Tiago AMT is the next best fit. It rides better and feels more solid, but the seat is a bit lower and the boot is smaller than the Wagon R.
