Maruti Suzuki Invicto is a premium MPV that was launched on 5 July 2023. It is Maruti's version of the Toyota Innova HyCross, and it is the brand's most premium model in India. It is sold in 3 variants across two trims, Zeta+ and Alpha+, with a choice of seven or eight seats. Every Invicto uses the same strong-hybrid powertrain. It pairs a 2.0-litre petrol engine with an electric motor for a combined 186hp, and sends power to the front wheels through an e-CVT automatic.

As per us at Autocar India, the Invicto has the size, comfort and fuel efficiency that premium MPV buyers look for. However, it misses a few features that the HyCross offers, such as ADAS. Invicto has also secured a 5-star rating from BNCAP and was also named MPV of the Year at the Autocar Awards 2024.

Invicto Key Features

Here is what you get across the range.

Category

Key Features

Engine and gearbox

  • A 2.0-litre petrol engine (152hp and 188Nm) works with an electric motor (114hp and 206Nm), for a combined 186hp
  • Every variant gets an e-CVT automatic with paddle shifters, and power goes to the front wheels
  • It starts in electric mode, and you get Power, Normal and Eco drive modes

Screens and audio

  • The Zeta+ gets an 8-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, along with six speakers
  • The Alpha+ moves up to a bigger 10.1-inch touchscreen, but it keeps the same six speakers
  • Both trims get a part-digital instrument cluster and Suzuki Connect connected car tech

Safety

  • Every variant gets six airbags, ABS with EBD, stability control, hill hold, ISOFIX mounts, a rear camera and disc brakes on all four wheels
  • The Alpha+ adds a 360-degree camera, parking sensors, tyre pressure monitoring and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror
  • There is no ADAS on any variants

Comfort and convenience

  • Even the base trim, the Zeta+ comes with automatic climate control, AC vents for the second and third rows, cruise control, ambient lighting, rear sunshades and push-button start
  • The Alpha+ adds a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats and leatherette upholstery
  • It also gets an 8-way powered driver's seat with memory and a powered tailgate, which were firsts for a Maruti car

Practicality

  • Choose seven seats with two captain chairs in the middle, or eight seats with a middle-row bench. The Alpha+ comes only as a 7-seater
  • The third row can seat three average-sized adults, and the middle row slides back for extra legroom
  • With all three rows up, the boot takes a couple of soft bags. Fold the 50:50 split third row and the space grows a lot

Invicto Road Test Findings

What we liked

  • The strong hybrid is very efficient. It starts in electric mode and runs silently in light traffic, which makes city driving calm and cheap.
  • Space and comfort are its biggest strengths. The captain chairs are large and can recline Plus, the third row can seat three average-sized adults.
  • It is surprisingly easy to drive for its size. The steering is light, visibility is good and the turning circle is small.
  • The 17-inch wheels give it a rounded ride. Bumps are absorbed well and it stays composed at highway speeds.

What we did not like

  • Some cabin plastics feel scratchy for a car at this price.
  • The 10.1-inch touchscreen feels basic. The graphics are dull and it is slow to respond.
  • Push hard on the accelerator and the engine sounds strained.
  • A fair amount of road noise reaches the cabin, and there is no ADAS on any variant.

Who Should Buy The Invicto?

Who it suits

Why it fits

Large families who need seven or eight seats

You can choose captain chairs or a bench in the middle row. Plus, as per us, the third row can also be accessed easily.

Buyers who cover long distances every year

The strong hybrid keeps running costs low.

Families who want a comfortable car to be driven in

The middle-row captain chairs recline, and the ride stays absorbent on bad roads. We feel the cabin is calm and relaxing, especially in electric mode.

Buyers who want stress-free ownership

It uses Toyota's proven hybrid system, and Maruti's wide Nexa service network makes upkeep easy. As per us, this makes the Invicto a safe long-term bet.

Safety-conscious buyers

All three variants carry a 5-star BNCAP rating, six airbags, stability control and ISOFIX mounts are standard.

The buyer it suits least is someone who wants a diesel, all-wheel drive or ADAS, as the Invicto offers none of these. It is front-wheel drive with a monocoque body, so we at Autocar India feel it is less suited to rough terrain and hilly roads than a ladder-frame MPV.

Maruti Suzuki Invicto price & variants

Maruti Suzuki Invicto price in India starts at Rs 24.97 lakh for the Hybrid Zeta+ 7 seat and goes up to Rs 28.70 lakh for the Hybrid Alpha+ 7 seat (ex-showroom). Meanwhile, the on-road price ranges from Rs 29.10 lakh to Rs 36.32 lakh in major Indian cities. EMIs for the Hybrid Zeta+ 7 seat start at Rs 42,153 a month.

You can choose from 3 variants, all of which get the same strong-hybrid engine and e-CVT automatic gearbox. So, the only choice you have to make is which trim to buy and which seating configuration to opt for.

Which Invicto variant should you buy?

  • As per us, the Zeta+ 7-seater offers the best value. It covers the basics well, with six airbags, a rear camera, cruise control and connected car tech. Plus it costs a lot less than the Alpha+.
  • Go for the Zeta+ 8-seater only if you often need to carry eight people. It swaps the middle-row captain chairs for a bench.
  • Opt for the Alpha+ trim if you want a panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats, powered tailgate, and a powered driver's seat with memory.  But remember, this trim is only offered as a 7-seater and commands a hefty premium over the Zeta+.

Maruti Suzuki Invicto Expert Review

Exterior Design And Engineering

7

First things, first. The Invicto is Maruti’s version of the Toyota Innova Hycross. Visual differences are subtle: a revised grille with twin chrome slats, triple-block DRLs, a reprofiled bumper and tail-lamps. Perhaps a bigger point of difference are the alloy wheels. The Invicto runs on 17-inch rims that look small on such a large vehicle. Maruti opted against 18s to prioritise ride comfort.

Interior Space And Comfort

8

The cabin feels familiar to the Hycross, but Maruti’s black and champagne gold theme gives it its own identity. The leatherette upholstery, padded dash, and overall ambience feel upmarket, though some hard plastics remain visible.
The large front seats are comfy, visibility is excellent, and the dashboard layout is user-friendly. Available in 7- and 8-seat layouts, the Invicto offers plenty of space, with the captain seats scoring really well for comfort. An omission, however, is a powered legrest that is part of the package on the Innova Hycross.
Third-row access is easy, and space is decent even for adults. Storage space is generous throughout and the powered tailgate is a handy touch.

Performance And Refinement

8

The Invicto runs a 186hp strong-hybrid setup combining a 2.0-litre petrol engine and electric motor, paired to an e-CVT. It starts in EV mode and offers silent running in light traffic. Performance is pleasant, though hard acceleration makes the engine sound strained. Paddle shifters and three drive modes enhance flexibility.

Mileage / Range And Efficiency

9

With an official figure of 23.24kpl, the Invicto is among the most efficient MPVs. Real-world figures of 13.1kpl (city) and 16.1kpl (highway) are impressive.

Ride Comfort And Handling

8

The Invicto feels smaller than it is, with light steering and a tight turning circle. The ride is absorbent and composed, though road noise is noticeable. Handling is tidy, but front-wheel drive and the monocoque structure mean the Invicto lacks the invincibility of rear drive and ladder-frame MPVs.

Features And Safety

8

Available only in top Zeta+ and Alpha+ trims, the Invicto gets features like a powered driver’s seat with memory, ventilated front seats, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control and a 360-degree camera. The 10.1-inch touchscreen feels dull, though Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are supported.
Six airbags, ESC, hill start assist and ISOFIX mounts are standard, but there’s no ADAS suite as on the Hycross.

Value For Money

7

The Invicto has the size, features, comfort and efficiency buyers want. It’s slightly cheaper than the Hycross but loses out on a few features. The bigger question is, will you be happy to spend Rs 30 lakh on a Maruti?

Maruti Suzuki Invicto Mileage

Maruti Suzuki Invicto mileage is rated at 23.24kpl, as per Maruti Suzuki. Owners report around 21.17kpl in real-world use, which is not that far from the certified figure.

We tested the same hybrid powertrain in the Innova HyCross, where it returned 13.1kpl in the city and 16.1kpl on the highway. For a large MPV, we consider these figures impressive.

I am confused about choosing between the Invicto Zeta Plus 8-seater and the Hycross Hybrid VX 8-seater. My annual running is around 30,000-40,000 km. Which one would cost less in terms of maintenance and be more beneficial in the long run? As of now, if I choose the Invicto, I will save approximately Rs. 3 lakh upfront, but I will miss out on a few features that the Hycross offers. Please suggest.

Verified
•2w

At 30,000- 40,000 km a year, the Invicto Zeta Plus makes a lot of sense, particularly with an upfront saving of around Rs 3 lakh. The Invicto and Hycross share the same basic hybrid powertrain, platform and e-CVT, so there is no meaningful difference in the fundamental driving experience or fuel efficiency. Both have an ARAI-claimed 23.24 kpl, while Autocar's user-reported figure for the Invicto is around 21.2kpl.The Hycross VX does give you some useful additional equipment, like a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors. The Invicto, however, gets six airbags as standard and is not a stripped-down version of the Hycross. For your annual running, the bigger consideration is that the Invicto is not likely to cost significantly more to run or maintain simply because it carries the Maruti badge. The underlying hybrid system is essentially the same Toyota-developed system. Maruti also has a much wider service network, which can be useful if the car is being used this extensively. The Hycross does have an advantage in terms of Toyota's long-standing ownership reputation and potentially stronger resale value. However, paying roughly Rs 3 lakh more for the VX purely for the additional features is difficult to justify when the powertrain, space and efficiency are fundamentally similar.

I own an Toyota Innova Crysta VX manual for the past 8 years that has completed one lakh km. I use it mostly for long distance and occasional city use. For most city driving, I have a Kia Sonnet automatic. Now, I am planning to buy an Toyota Innova HyCross. Should I go for the hybrid or NA petrol version? Also, can I consider Invicto for hybrid?

Verified
•3w

Given your usage pattern of predominantly long-distance driving with occasional city use, the strong hybrid HyCross is the more sensible choice. The hybrid system delivers its benefits in both city traffic, as well as on long highway runs, making the premium you pay for the hybrid totally worth it. The naturally aspirated petrol, while smooth, is a gas guzzler that only makes sense for extremely limited urban use.The Invicto is essentially the same car as the HyCross underneath, so it is absolutely worth considering if you prefer the Maruti dealership experience or find a better deal. The decision between the two should come down to pricing, availability and your preferred service network rather than the product itself.

I'm confused between the Mahindra XUV 7XO AX7 Diesel AT (₹25 lakh) and the Maruti Suzuki Invicto Alpha+ Hybrid AT (₹30 lakh). I'm currently driving a 2021 Hyundai Verna Diesel AT, and my daily running is around 100 km with a mix of city and highway driving. I live in Delhi NCR, so I'm also concerned about the future of diesel vehicles, possible policy changes, and long-term ownership. I plan to keep my next car for 8–10 years. My priorities are: - Reliability and long-term ownership - Fuel efficiency - Comfort for family - Safety - Features and technology - Overall value for money Considering the Delhi NCR diesel scenario, is it still sensible to buy the XUV 7XO Diesel AT, or is the Invicto Alpha+ Hybrid worth spending ₹5 lakh more for better long-term peace of mind?

My priorities are: reliability, long-term ownership, good fuel efficiency, comfort for family, safety, features, technology, and maintenance costs. Overall value for money. Is the Invicto worth spending 5 lakh more, or is the XUV 7XO AX7 Diesel AT the better buy overall?

Verified

Pick the Maruti Suzuki Invicto Hybrid Alpha+. With 100 km a day and an 8-10 year plan, the hybrid will cut your fuel bills in city traffic and is simpler to own long term than a big diesel. It is also the comfiest family car, with a smoother ride, easier third row, and a calmer cabin on bad roads and highways. Under the skin, it is Toyota hybrid tech with Maruti’s widespread service, so reliability and upkeep are as stress-free as it gets. The Mahindra XUV 7XO AX7 is a great value and loaded, feels stronger on the highway, and its cousin, the XUV700, has a proven 5-star record. But the diesel will use more fuel in daily city use, has DPF hardware that can be fussy in traffic.Be honest about one thing, though: the Invicto costs more and misses some toys like ADAS, and the drivetrain is relaxed rather than quick. Even so, with your running, the fuel savings over time almost bridge the price gap, and the Invicto is the safer long-haul bet.

I am planning to buy the Maruti Suzuki Invicto. Is this a good option?

Verified
•19w

Yes, the Maruti Suzuki Invicto is a solid buy if you want a smooth and efficient family mover. The strong-hybrid powertrain shines in traffic, so you get a quiet, relaxed drive, and it is very fuel-efficient too. Space and comfort are its big strengths, especially the second row, and the light steering and good visibility make this big MPV easy to handle in town.If you often do airport runs or weekend trips, it works well, but be aware of two things. With all three rows up, boot space is tight. Also, when fully loaded on highways, it feels calm rather than quick. It is priced on the higher side for a Maruti, and you miss a few fancy features the Toyota Innova Hycross it is based on gets, but for stress-free city use and long-term running costs, it makes sense.
