MG Tomahawk EV or Mahindra XEV 9S Pack Two Above: which one should I choose? I’ve booked both, and I’m confused. My priorities are range, long-term ownership and driving experience. Please give me a clear recommendation.
Given that range and driving experience are your two biggest priorities, we would pick the Mahindra XEV 9S Pack Two Above 70kWh over the MG Hector Tomahawk EV.The Mahindra has a more powerful Rear Wheel Drive motor, delivering stronger performance and a more engaging driving experience. It also supports faster DC charging. In our real-world test, the larger 79kWh XEV 9S delivered an average range of 477.5km, against 446km for the MG. The MG did better in city driving, but the Mahindra had a significant advantage on the highway. The 70kWh XEV 9S has a claimed range of 600km, but its real-world range has not been established through the same test. Based on available estimates, expect around 430 - 450km.The MG is the more affordable option and offers a comfortable, spacious cabin, but the Mahindra is quicker and more engaging to drive
Has the introduction of captain seats in the six-seater Mahindra XEV 9S improved rear-seat comfort? Will the new seating layout prevent motion sickness?
The captain chairs will help a little, but they won’t cure motion sickness, because they don’t change what causes it in the Mahindra XEV 9S. We haven’t tested the six-seater yet, but in our review the 9S’s suspension soaked up bumps and potholes brilliantly. On gently undulating roads, though, it kept moving up and down, and that became more noticeable at speed. That constant bobbing is what tends to make passengers queasy, and the seat layout can’t fix it.What does help is the firmer damping in Race mode, which we found reduces that vertical movement. There’s also a custom mode that pairs the firmer damping with lighter steering and relaxed throttle settings, so you can use it every day. Smooth driving makes a big difference too.
The MG Hector Tomahawk EV has a 69.2kWh battery, which is 10.2kWh larger than the 59kWh unit in the Mahindra XEV 9S, yet both have almost identical claimed ranges of around 517km and 521km, respectively. What is the main reason for this difference: lower vehicle efficiency, aerodynamics, powertrain efficiency or battery characteristics? Based on your testing, would you expect the Tomahawk’s real-world range to be higher or lower than that of the XEV 9S 59kWh?
The MG Hector Tomahawk EV’s larger 69.2 kWh battery, delivering a similar claimed range to the Mahindra XEV 9S Pack One Above 59kWh (517 km vs 521 km) is primarily a reflection of vehicle efficiency rather than battery chemistry. The Hector Tomahawk EV is a larger, heavier SUV with a more upright body and a less aerodynamic shape, which naturally increases energy consumption per kilometre. The XEV 9S, while still a large SUV, is a more modern, ground-up EV with a sleeker design and a more efficient powertrain, allowing it to extract more range from a smaller battery. In real-world testing, we would expect the Hector Tomahawk EV to deliver a slightly higher absolute range than the XEV 9S 59 kWh, simply because of the larger battery. However, the difference is unlikely to be dramatic, and the Mahindra will remain the more efficient vehicle in terms of energy consumed per kilometre. The Hector Tomahawk EV’s advantage is range, not efficiency.
XUV 7XO AXT diesel automatic vs XEV 9S: which one should I buy? My driving is around 40-50km per day, with 80-90% of it in the city. I like to go on short trips almost every 15 days, so I believe DPF should not be a problem, but I would like your advice on this. I can also have a charger installed at home. Which one would you suggest?
Go for the Mahindra XEV 9S. With 40-50 km a day, 80-90% city driving, and the ability to install a home charger, you are the ideal electric car owner. The XEV 9S is a genuinely well-rounded electric SUV with a strong real-world range, a spacious and comfortable cabin, and a very refined driving experience in the city. Your regular short trips every 15 days are easily manageable with an EV, and the convenience of home charging will make ownership effortless. The XUV 7XO AXT diesel is a very good SUV, but your usage pattern does not justify a diesel. Modern diesel cars are far less problematic than they used to be, but DPF regeneration still requires regular sustained highway runs, and your usage is predominantly city-based. The XEV 9S, on the other hand, will deliver lower running costs, zero tailpipe emissions, and a smoother, quieter driving experience that is perfectly suited to your daily routine. The only caveat is long-distance touring. If your short trips are genuinely long highway runs, you will need to plan charging stops. But for your usage, the XEV 9S is the smarter, more future-proof choice.
I am looking to buy a new EV for my daily office commute, which is roughly 100 km round-trip. My current ride is a Toyota Innova Crysta. While it is a reliable workhorse, I find it increasingly tiring for daily use. The constant body roll, low-speed bounciness, and typical ladder-frame wobble over uneven roads are wearing me down. I want to switch to a smooth, refined electric SUV. My usage will be a mix of self-driving and being chauffeur-driven. My absolute top priorities are: Ride Comfort & Stability: I need a car that glides over bad roads, handles speed bumps cleanly, and minimises vertical movement/head-toss. I want to avoid the wobbliness of the Crysta at all costs. Cabin Space: Generous legroom, good under-thigh support, and a spacious cabin environment are highly important. I am currently considering four upcoming/recently launched options, but I am torn between them: Mahindra XEV 9e, Mahindra XEV 9s, Tata Sierra EV, Tata Harrier EV. Given my 100 km daily run, battery efficiency is a factor, but comfort overrides everything else. Which of these four will offer the most stable, plush, and fatigue-free ride for someone moving away from an Innova Crysta? I do not intend to sell the Innova Crysta, as I want to keep it for the airport and family runs for long distance.
For your 100 km daily commute, with comfort and stability as the absolute priorities, the Tata Sierra EV is the top recommendation. This Tata car is built on Tata's Gen 2 EV architecture, which is a dedicated electric platform with a flat floor and a long wheelbase. This gives it a very stable, planted feel on the road, and the suspension is tuned for comfort, with a soft, absorbent ride that deals with bad roads, speed bumps and undulations far better than a ladder-frame vehicle like the Crysta. The Sierra EV also has a spacious cabin with generous legroom, good under-thigh support and a wide, airy feel, making it a genuinely comfortable place to spend long hours, whether you are driving or being driven. Also, its 75 kWh battery pack gives it a strong range, so you don't have to worry about recharging even on long trips. The Mahindra XEV 9e and 9s are both strong products, but they are not quite as plush or as settled. The Harrier EV has a redesigned floor pan, but it still doesn't feel as spacious or airy inside as the Sierra. The Sierra also has a larger boot compared to the Harrier. Given that you are keeping the Crysta for airport runs and long-distance family trips, the Sierra EV is the best fit for your daily commute. It is the most comfortable, the most stable and the most fatigue-free option of the four.
