I want to buy a new SUV that offers the fuel efficiency and ownership experience of a hybrid like the Hyryder, the safety and road presence of the Scorpio N, and the comfort of a 6-seater automatic petrol like the XUV700. I also want to keep this new car for around 10-12 years. Please suggest a model that can meet most of these requirements.

While there isn't exactly a car that's as efficient as the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, the road presence of a Mahindra Scorpio N, and has the comfort of an XUV700, a vehicle which could come close is the Mahindra XEV 9S.
Being an electric car, running costs will be very low, and comfort and road presence are similar to an XUV700. The Toyota Innova HyCross will be efficient and comfortable, although it won't offer the Scorpio-like road presence that you're looking for.

My monthly driving is around 2,000 km, with 80 percent city usage and 20 percent highway. I want to purchase an SUV for a family of four. I am looking for an economical yet powerful car. I am confused between the Creta SX(O) Diesel AT, Seltos GT Diesel AT, XUV700 AX5 Diesel AT, and Scorpio Z8. Please guide me on what I should buy, as I want a performance-driven car and prefer a diesel over a petrol. The car should be strong in power and handling, and also be feature- and tech-loaded.

The Creta's and Seltos' 1.5-litre diesel engine will be efficient, while the XUV700's and Scorpio N's 2.2-litre diesel will be powerful and punchy.
Since power and handling are priorities, go for the Mahindra XUV700. Further, with twin screens and a large sunroof, among other features, the XUV is well-equipped, and these modern niceties further add to the overall feel-good factor.

Iโ€™m looking for real-world feedback on the XUV700 vs the Scorpio N. Which one offers better overall value for money and long-term reliability? How different are the engine refinement and performance between the two? In terms of safety and build quality, which SUV feels more confidence-inspiring on the road? Finally, how do their actual fuel-efficiency figures compare in city and highway conditions?

The Mahindra Scorpio N is a ladder-frame SUV, meaning the body is bolted onto a chassis. This construction makes it more hardy, however, the Scorpio N will have that typical body sway that is associated with chassis vehicles.

The ride is thus not settled over undulations, and this is where the Mahindra XUV700 is better. It utilizes a monocoque construction, which is where all components are bolted to the body shell itself. This gives the car overall better rigidity, resulting in better ride and handling, something that is noticeably better with the XUV700.

Engine refinement and performance are similar, given that the two SUVs share the same powertrains. However, real-world efficiency is better with the XUV700 as it has active safety. Also, the XUV700 has better and more stable handling at higher speeds.

I want to buy a high-seated 7-seater car like the Scorpio N (diesel manual). My daily running is around 50 km, but my family wants to buy an EV for the 50 km per day drive. Since we have mixed opinions, what would be the better decision, an EV or a diesel?

The type of powertrain depends on your usage. If you cover 50km daily in the city and the car will mostly be used in the city, then an electric car makes sense. The Kia Carens Clavis EV is a good choice as it has a good range and spacious seating for 7.
However, if you plan on doing outstation trips often, then a diesel will be a better choice. The Mahindra Scorpio N has good performance and is comfy, but not as spacious as the XUV700.
The Mahindra XUV700 would be a better buy than the Scorpio N in your case.

Please suggest a car for me to buy within the next four months. I want a large, attractive SUV with strong road presence, a usable third row, good power, generous features, and excellent ride comfort. It should be rugged and off-road friendly without being a full-blown off-roader. I own a firm and want a vehicle that commands respect; I prefer relaxed driving and do not require explosive acceleration. My budget is โ‚น25-28 lakh, and I plan to keep the car for five years before selling it.

For your requirements, the Mahindra Scorpio-N 2WD Diesel 2.2L Turbo Automatic 7 STR Carbon Edition will be the best choice. It has more power and torque than the Tata Safari. It also has a more refined and stronger-performing diesel engine, a smooth-shifting automatic gearbox, and the Carbon edition has an aggressive look as well.

It has one of the strongest road presence in India and is very well off the tarmac and over bad roads.

I work in real estate and currently drive a Mahindra TUV300 T8 (2016). It has been reliable and gives me around 17 kmpl. I drive 100-150 km daily and need something rugged and bad-road friendly. I often take rough paths, and because of the lack of a 4x4, I got stuck on multiple occasions. What should I upgrade to?

Since you haven't mentioned your budget, it'll be difficult to recommend the right car for you. That said, the Mahindra Scorpio N and Thar Roxx seem like a logical upgrade from your current vehicle. Both of these Mahindra cars feel more modern, more refined, and polished.

Hello, I have owned a Nexa XL6 for the past five years, and it has been very comfortable. Now itโ€™s time to change the car. Iโ€™m looking for a 7-seater and have shortlisted the Scorpio N, XUV700, and Tata Safari. Please share your expert recommendation. Thanks.

Purely as a seven-seater, the Tata Safari is the comfier option, with good space for adults in all three rows. The Mahindra XUV700 comes second in terms of space, but it feels smoother and more refined than the Safari.
The Scorpio N is the least spacious, especially for adults in the third row.

I'm looking to replace my 2017 Duster. I do a lot of highway driving, city runs, and around 10โ€“15% off-road/poor roads. I need space for four people, luggage, and two Labradors. What should I buy?

It would depend on your budget and how far you are willing to stretch it, but good options would be the Mahindra Thar Roxx and Mahindra Scorpio N (5 seater). They're both tough, ladder frame SUVs with strong petrol and diesel engines, that are great on the highway and perfect for rough roads.

With spacious cabins and big luggage areas with split-folding rear seats, your dogs will have enough room and easy access. Of the two, we would recommend the Thar Roxx as it is the newer of the two and, as such, is better equipped, and slightly better engineered. Plus, its split-opening tailgate feature could be a nice way to give your dogs some ventilation while still being safely inside the car.

Planning to buy Scorpio. Which one is better, S11 Classic or Scorpio N? Generally, I drive on highways, and in the city, I either use a cab or my Ford Figo 5-seater. Now planning to have a 7-seater.

The Mahindra Scorpio N is a much better product overall. It has a more powerful and refined engine, a stable ride that is essential for highway driving, and a good set of safety and comfort features.
The third row is also better than the jump-seat layout of the Scorpio Classic.

I want to buy a new car (five- or seven-seater) as my second vehicle. I live in an urban city and commute about 50 km daily. My budget is under โ‚น20 lakh. I want an automatic gearbox, 4-star (or above) safety, and good comfort. Iโ€™ve shortlisted the Mahindra Scorpio N, Suzuki XL6, Maruti Fronx, and Hyundai Verna. Which should I choose?

Looking at your criteria of safety and comfort, along with an automatic transmission, we would recommend the Maruti Suzuki Victoris. However, if you want a seven-seater, then the Scorpio N would suit you better of the two that you have shortlisted, as the XL6 does not meet your crash rating bar. However, bear in mind the ride of the Scorpio is a bit jittery and won't be as plush as the XL6 or Victoris.
