Land Rover Range Rover Velar FAQs

Considering a 10 percent down payment and 7-year loan tenure, the Aura EMI starts at Rs 1.45 lakh in Delhi.

The Range Rover has a much lower starting price compared to rivals like the Mercedes-Benz GLE and the BMW X5.

I’m looking to buy a luxury SUV and have shortlisted the Range Rover Velar, BMW X5 and Volvo XC90. I’m also considering something from Mercedes‑Benz. Which one would you suggest?

Without knowing your specific requirements, it is hard to give you a definitive pick. Of the options on your mind, the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE make for the most well-rounded luxury SUVs. They are spacious, well-equipped, comfortable and good to drive. The Range Rover Velar is big on style but isn't as roomy as the other SUVs. The Volvo XC90's firm ride and lesser refinement mark it down.

Can you help me compare Range Rover Velar, BMW X5 and Volvo SUV?

The best all-rounder of these three is the BMW X5, as it offers the best engines, a good mix of driver enjoyment and comfort, great interior space for five, the latest tech and the widest dealer network. Its two six-cylinder engines - a petrol and a diesel - offer a superb mix of power and refinement, and whichever you choose, it feels well suited to a luxury SUV of this size and price. The Range Rover Velar is pretty good value if you don't require too much space. It's half a size smaller than the others, and thus not as roomy, and its four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines aren't as powerful, smooth or refined as the BMW's sixes. It's the more stylish choice, but it is starting to show its age now.The Volvo XC90 is also starting to show its age, but a recent facelift means it has received the latest in Volvo's in-cabin tech. It's the only one here to get a third row of seats, and luxury and the features list are pretty good too. However, its 2.0-litre petrol engine doesn't feel strong enough for the SUV's size and it's not as comfortable or refined as the BMW.

I am confused between the Range Rover Velar and the Audi Q8. I am aware of the price difference and engine options. I would like an opinion on which one would be better for long-term ownership.

The two luxury SUVs belong to slightly different segments, with a roughly Rs 30 lakh price difference. That said, of the two, we would lean towards the Audi Q8 for long-run peace of mind in India. The Q8 tends to have fewer small issues as the years add up, its electronics feel better sorted, and the engine-gearbox feels very smooth even in slow traffic and in our heat. Audi cars also has a wider service reach in most cities, and parts supply is usually quicker, which matters when you want the car back on the road fast after a service or repair. Besides, you get a more powerful 6-cylinder engine and far more interior space. There are trade-offs. The Q8 costs a fair bit more and it is a large car to park in tight spaces. Running costs will be higher than the Velar, especially if most of your use is in the city. The Range Rover Velar is more of a style statement, inside and out, and while you miss out on a six-cylinder engine, what you do get is a diesel engine option.

I am using an Endeavour 2.2 (2019) and now want to add a luxury car under ₹1 crore. Which is the best option?

Verified

At under Rs 1 crore, the best luxury car you can buy is the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. With its long wheelbase, compliant suspension tuning and comfortable, reclining rear seats, it offers one of the best back-seat experiences on the market. And that aside, it's very well equipped and has a strong selection of petrol and diesel engines as well.If you'd prefer an SUV, the Range Rover Velar is also a good option, being stylish inside and out, with a cool, minimalist interior. If you want more space, the Audi Q7 offers three rows of seats and excellent value for money.

I want to upgrade my car. My budget is around 80-90 lacs, and I'm considering the GLC 300, X3 and the Velar (I prefer SUVs over sedans). I've also been suggested to consider the Porsche Macan, but I believe with the add-ons the costing will 1+ cr. My apprehension with the Velar is the reliability and the maintenance costs. My running is around 1000-1200 km p.m. and will be self-driven.

Both the Land Rover Range Rover Velar and the Porsche Macan will run you close to Rs 1 crore on the road. Moreover, this Porsche car is showing its age now and is quite cramped on the inside, though it remains the best SUV to drive among your shortlist.Yes, Land Rovers are plagued with a history of poor and expensive service, but there have been great improvements in recent years, more so since local assembly has begun, and parts are not as hard to come by.Though more conventional, the Mercedes-Benz GLC and BMW X3 are safer bets and offer more bang for your buck. Of the two, it's the GLC that feels like the best all-rounder.
