I currently own an Ertiga Diesel VDI and am planning to change my car. I want a 7-seater vehicle with an automatic transmission and would like suggestions on suitable options.

The most logical option for you would be to upgrade to the current Ertiga, which is a generation ahead of the one you currently have.

The current Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is more spacious than your model and comes with a smooth 6-speed automatic too.

However, there is no diesel option available like in the previous generation Ertiga that you own. So if you are looking for an MPV with the low running cost of diesel, the next best option, if you have the budget, is the Kia Carens Clavis diesel. It comes with a 1.5 diesel automatic, coupled to a smooth-shifting six-speed auto transmission.

I want to buy a seven-seater, and my annual running is around 20,000 km, mostly on CNG. I am confused between the Kia Carens and the Ertiga. I am concerned about the Carens’ fuel efficiency, especially in city usage. Is the Kia Carens CNG expected anytime soon?

There are no plans for a Kia Carens CNG, as the brand offers both a diesel option and an EV for those who want lower running costs. The downside, of course, is that the purchase price of these versions is higher. If you're hell-bent on CNG, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is an excellent car, with good space and practicality.
However, on most other fronts, the Kia Carens Clavis is better. It has a more upmarket interior with good space in all three rows, and a variety of engine options, including that diesel. Apart from the turbo-petrol engine, which has to be driven carefully to return good fuel economy, the other engines are very fuel-efficient. Hence, if it fits in your budget, we recommend the Kia Carens Clavis.

I’m looking for a new 7-seater car with a budget of ₹20 lakh. My yearly running will be around 10,000 to 12,000km. I don’t need fancy features, but I would like to have cruise control.

The Kia Carens Clavis fits your requirements well. It is a comfortable seven-seater with surprisingly generous cabin space, smart cabin ergonomics, generous storage, and charging areas all around.
You may opt for the 1.5 Turbo-petrol MT HTK+ variant, which will easily fall within your budget. It comes with the cruise control that you're looking for, and its turbo-petrol engine delivers strong performance, which is likely to make your highway drives effortless.

I own a 2020 Renault Triber, which is currently in good condition and has been driven for 48,000 kilometres. I would like your advice on the optimal time to sell this vehicle. Additionally, when considering a replacement, should I continue with the Renault Triber as a 7-seater option, or would you recommend a different model? I am asking because I have the perception that it may be prudent to use a car for no more than five years before exchanging it for a new one. Please guide

There are multiple schools of thought - some people may want to keep the car for the longest time possible, some might want to replace it every few years, and some might want to replace it every year. Hence, there is no right or wrong time to sell your vehicle.
If there is a car you're lusting after, or if minor niggling issues keep cropping up with your Renault Triber, then it certainly makes sense to replace it immediately. However, if the car is serving you well without any issues, you may hold on to it for a few more years. Interestingly, the resale value of a vehicle falls the steepest in the first two years, after which its residual value will reduce gradually.
So the difference in resale value at the end of five years and seven/eight years won't be drastic if the car is looked after well. We'd advise you to sell it if you are ready to upgrade to maybe a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga/XL6 or Kia Carens Clavis.

I am confused between the Kia Carens and the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga. I drive around 30km daily. Which one would you recommend?

While both MPVs are practical and likeable, the Kia Carens Clavis offers a superior experience for not much more money. This Kia car has a nicer interior, gets a bit more by way of features, and the button-operated middle seat fold is a convenience feature that you will really appreciate.
Performance from the standard 1.5 petrol engine is decent (it's stronger than a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga) and, if you want more power, there's also the option of a stronger turbo-petrol engine.

Hi, I am a new driver and want to buy a car which would be suitable for my family of 6. I generally do not buy second-hand stuff, but maybe that doesn't work with cars. Is it advisable to buy a new car or should I buy a second-hand car? My budget is 16-17 lakhs. My daily commute on average would be 35kms within the city and occasional long highway drives. Which car do you recommend?

Opting for a new car or used car boils down to how you’d like to utilise your budget. Buying used can help you get a larger vehicle with more features for the same money as a new car. However, a used vehicle does mean the vehicle has already experienced some degree of wear and tear. Specialist mechanics can help you judge if a vehicle is in good condition or not, or you could use the services of companies like Spinny that have a huge selection to choose from and also offer warranties.
New cars worth considering within your budget include the Kia Carens Clavis, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Maruti Suzuki XL6. These MPVs provide comfortable seating (the XL6 is a 6 seater while the Carens Clavis and Ertiga are 7 seaters) and offer decent performance. While all 3 models are easy enough to drive, we suggest you first check the Kia Carens Clavis, which feels newer and more upmarket than the Maruti Suzuki alternatives.

Right now, I am having a Skoda Laura diesel. I am planning to change and buy the Kia Carens Clavis. My usage is mostly city driving with very limited monthly travel, plus around five long trips a year. Given this, should I choose the petrol or diesel variant?

Given your usage, we’d suggest you consider the petrol options in the Kia Carens Clavis. While the diesel will deliver the best real-world economy, it needs regular long trips to keep the engine running at its best.
Among the petrol options, the standard 1.5-litre unit is nice enough for most needs. It is nice and refined, and there’s decent power for gentle highway cruises and everyday drives. Opt for the turbo-petrol only if you necessarily need more power or are looking for an automatic gearbox option.

I am looking to buy a new 7-seater car that should have sufficient third-row space. I am looking for a petrol variant with a 360-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS features.

Given your requirements, you should consider the Kia Carens Clavis. It's got a spacious third row of seats which can accomodate adults, and the top-spec versions also come with a 360-degree parking camera and Level 2 ADAS features autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, rear cross-traffic alert and more.
This Kia car is powered by a 160hp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

I’m looking to buy a new or used car with a monthly running of about 2,000 km (mostly city with a few Mumbai-Pune trips). The car will be mostly chauffeur-driven, so rear-seat comfort and smooth low-speed performance are important. Daily use will be for 2-3 passengers, but I need occasional seating for six. I prefer Hybrid, Diesel, or Electric. My priorities are comfort, reliability, low running costs, and strong service support. My budget is around 25 lakh. Please suggest 3-5 options and include used choices if suitable.

With your extensive usage, we cannot recommend an EV, as you would have to charge it frequently, and that is not good for battery health. In your budget of Rs 25 lakh, there aren't any 6-seater hybrids, either; your only option there is to move up to the Rs 30-lakh-plus Toyota Innova Hycross or Maruti Suzuki Invicto - both of which are excellent choices.

In your budget, the best option is the Kia Carens Clavis diesel. It's well equipped, comfortable and surprisingly spacious for its size. Plus, there are both six and seven-seat versions, so you can choose which configuration suits you best.

I am very happy with my Ertiga diesel and want to buy a new diesel car within a budget of ₹15-18 lakh. Which is the best option among Kia, XUV700, or Safari? I need the car for city as well as urban travel.

By Kia, we assume you mean the Kia Carens Clavis, and this is the car we would recommend for you. Since your travel is in the city and urban environments, this Kia car feels the easiest to maneuver of the three. Moreover, with your budget, you will get a better-equipped Clavis than a Tata Safari or Mahindra XUV700.
