I have been driving a Renault Duster for the past 13 years and have been extremely happy with the overall ownership experience. I am now planning to replace it and am seriously considering the upcoming Renault Duster Hybrid expected around the Diwali launch period. I am essentially looking for a car that offers a strong balance of driving pleasure, safety, comfort, good looks, and sensible fuel efficiency. Would the new 1.8L Renault Duster Hybrid be the right choice for my requirements, or should I also consider other options in the ₹20-30 lakh price bracket that offer a similar experience?

Since you are a happy Renault Duster owner, the best upgrade for you is the new Duster hybrid. The new-gen Duster really does feel like an upgrade in terms of its interior ambience, features and tech. Age-old Duster traits like the steering shock have been fixed, and in top-spec form, there is a premium vibe to the otherwise rugged package. The only catch is that the space is about the same as your Duster. A larger 7-seat version of the Duster is also due for launch and could bring with it a roomier cabin too.As for the 1.8-litre strong hybrid powertrain, it sure has the makings of a very enticing option. The engine is strong and coupled to electric motors; real-world fuel efficiency should be very good, too. We would definitely wait for Renault's hybrid before finalising any SUV in the Rs 20 lakh plus price band.FYI - The next-gen Hyundai Creta that comes by early 2027 is also expected to launch with a strong hybrid powertrain.

I am confused between the Hyundai Creta S(O) and the Kia Seltos HTK(O). While I like the Creta overall, it feels like the current generation may be nearing the end of its lifecycle and could receive a facelift or update in the near future.

The Kia Seltos is the better pick. It is a generation newer than the Creta currently on sale, and comes with the benefits of a larger body, roomier cabin, better refinement, as well as the promise of better safety. The Seltos is a well put together package and feels richer than a like-priced Hyundai Creta. Do note, the next-gen Hyundai Creta goes on sale by early 2027 and will offer the same strengths as the Kia. If you are not in a rush to buy a new SUV, we'd suggest you wait for the new Creta and take a call on the right one for you then. In case you need to buy one soon, go for the Seltos. It gives you more for your buck.

I am planning to buy a mid-size SUV mainly for city use within a budget of ₹14–16 lakh in the next 6–7 months. My priorities are long-term ownership (10–15 years), premium interiors, a punchy engine, and good driving performance. I am considering the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq (1.0 TSI), and the Renault Duster (1.3 MT). Which one would you recommend as the best balance of reliability, driving enjoyment, and interior quality? Also, is it worth waiting for the Creta facelift or any upcoming models?

If it fits in your budget, go for the Kia Seltos, as it meets most of your broad set of requirements. Kias are known to be reliable enough for prolonged usage. The Seltos has a spacious and well-appointed premium interior that looks and feels upmarket. It's also pretty fun to drive, especially if you opt for the 160hp 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. The new-gen Hyundai Creta is coming in 2027 and might be worth waiting for, but you will get most of what it offers in the Seltos available today. However, as you've pointed out, it might be worth moving a segment lower to get more for your money, in which case we'd recommend the Hyundai Venue. It offers much of what the Seltos offers, including reliability, features and high-quality interior - albeit in a smaller form factor at a more affordable price. If reliability trumps all else, consider a Maruti Suzuki compact SUV like the Brezza or the Fronx.
