I am planning to buy a mid-size SUV mainly for city use within a budget of ₹14–16 lakh in the next 6–7 months. My priorities are long-term ownership (10–15 years), premium interiors, a punchy engine, and good driving performance. I am considering the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq (1.0 TSI), and the Renault Duster (1.3 MT). Which one would you recommend as the best balance of reliability, driving enjoyment, and interior quality? Also, is it worth waiting for the Creta facelift or any upcoming models?

If it fits in your budget, go for the Kia Seltos, as it meets most of your broad set of requirements. Kias are known to be reliable enough for prolonged usage. The Seltos has a spacious and well-appointed premium interior that looks and feels upmarket. It's also pretty fun to drive, especially if you opt for the 160hp 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. The new-gen Hyundai Creta is coming in 2027 and might be worth waiting for, but you will get most of what it offers in the Seltos available today.

However, as you've pointed out, it might be worth moving a segment lower to get more for your money, in which case we'd recommend the Hyundai Venue. It offers much of what the Seltos offers, including reliability, features and high-quality interior - albeit in a smaller form factor at a more affordable price. If reliability trumps all else, consider a Maruti Suzuki compact SUV like the Brezza or the Fronx.

Hi, I am a first-time car buyer and earn around Rs 1 lakh per month. I am planning to buy a car this year and have shortlisted the Maruti Brezza facelift, Hyundai Venue and Kia Seltos. My usage will be roughly 50% in the city and 50% on the highway. Which of these would be the better choice for a first-time buyer? In the Brezza facelift, the 1.5-litre engine costs around Rs 1 lakh more than the 1.0-litre turbo. Would it be worth spending the extra amount on the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine, or is the 1.0-litre turbo a better choice? The Maruti Suzuki Brezza 1.5 petrol automatic would be the best fit for you. As a first-time buyer with a 50:50 city-highway usage pattern and comfort and ease of driving as priorities, the Brezza's smooth, predictable power delivery, light controls and comfortable ride make it the easiest car here to live with. The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine is also the better choice if you want an automatic. At the same time, the 1.0-litre turbo makes sense mainly if you prefer a manual and want stronger mid-range performance. The extra Rs 1 lakh for the 1.5 is worth spending if the automatic is the preference.The new Hyundai Venue is more feature-rich and feels more modern inside, while its 1.0-litre turbo offers stronger performance than the Brezza 1.5. However, its DCT is not as effortless as a torque converter in slow city traffic, so it isn't the first choice if easy driving is the priority. DCT gearboxes are at their best in spirited driving and can be less comfortable in heavy traffic, while turbo-petrol engines are not the most efficient option for high-mileage ownership.Given your running, a diesel Seltos would actually be the more sensible choice today. It will prove to be more efficient, well-suited to long commutes and offer a strong ownership proposition. However, since you are already considering waiting, it is worth holding on for the upcoming Seltos and Hyundai New Creta hybrid models expected next year. A strong hybrid will deliver significantly better fuel efficiency in your kind of usage and will be a better long-term ownership proposition than a turbo-petrol DCT.If you need the car immediately, go for the Seltos diesel. If you can wait, the hybrid is the smarter long-term choice.

Go for the Kia Seltos base petrol. Both the Seltos and Creta share the same 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, though the Seltos has moved to a new generation and thus offers a few more benefits, mechanically and with respect to electronics too. Around early next year, the Creta too will move to the new platform; thus, you could use this to drive a good bargain, and if you are getting a good deal, go with the Creta; else, we would lean towards the Kia. The Seltos base variant is also better equipped than the Creta base variant at a similar price point, giving you a more complete ownership experience from day one. Since your usage is mostly city driving with limited highway runs, the 1.5 petrol is well suited to your needs, offering smooth performance and good refinement in traffic. The Seltos also feels slightly more premium inside, which adds to the overall appeal. The Creta is still a very good car, but in this specific comparison, the Seltos would be the better option.

We would strongly advise against installing aftermarket CNG on any of these SUVs. All three – the Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV 7XO and Scorpio N - are large, heavy vehicles with powerful turbocharged petrol engines. Fitting CNG to such engines is not recommended, as it can lead to drivability issues, increased wear and potential reliability concerns over time. More importantly, these SUVs are not designed with CNG in mind, and the installation can compromise safety and performance.If fuel economy is a top priority, opt for their diesel versions instead. The Mahindra and Tata offer strong torque, excellent highway efficiency and are well-suited to long-distance touring. If you are set on CNG, it is better to look at smaller, naturally aspirated petrol cars that are either factory-fitted or specifically designed for CNG use.Between the three, the XUV 7XO diesel would be our recommendation. It offers a more modern package, better ride comfort and a more premium cabin than the Scorpio N, while the Safari diesel is also a strong contender if you prefer Tata's design and feature set. But CNG should not be the deciding factor here.

I currently use a Skoda Slavia Ambition 1.0 automatic since last 4 years. Now, I am thinking of switching the car but I am confused between Honda Elevate V CVT petrol and Kia Seltos HTK iVT petrol.

Given that you are coming from a Skoda Slavia 1.0 TSI automatic, the Kia Seltos HTK IVT petrol is the more natural upgrade. The Seltos offers a noticeably larger and more premium cabin, better rear seat space and a more substantial feel overall. The IVT gearbox is smooth and well-suited to city driving, and the car feels like a genuine step up from the Slavia in terms of comfort and overall ownership experience.The Honda Elevate V CVT petrol is a solid and reliable choice, but it does not feel like as much of an upgrade from the Slavia. The cabin is not as spacious or as premium as the Seltos, and the overall ownership experience is more about simplicity and reliability than about feeling like a significant step up.The only caveat with the Seltos HTK is that it is not the most feature-rich variant in the lineup. If you can stretch to a higher variant, the Seltos becomes an even stronger recommendation. If not, it is still the better choice over the Elevate because it offers a more substantial upgrade from your current car.
