I am planning to buy a mid-size SUV mainly for city use within a budget of ₹14–16 lakh in the next 6–7 months. My priorities are long-term ownership (10–15 years), premium interiors, a punchy engine, and good driving performance. I am considering the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq (1.0 TSI), and the Renault Duster (1.3 MT). Which one would you recommend as the best balance of reliability, driving enjoyment, and interior quality? Also, is it worth waiting for the Creta facelift or any upcoming models?

If it fits in your budget, go for the Kia Seltos, as it meets most of your broad set of requirements. Kias are known to be reliable enough for prolonged usage. The Seltos has a spacious and well-appointed premium interior that looks and feels upmarket. It's also pretty fun to drive, especially if you opt for the 160hp 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. The new-gen Hyundai Creta is coming in 2027 and might be worth waiting for, but you will get most of what it offers in the Seltos available today.

However, as you've pointed out, it might be worth moving a segment lower to get more for your money, in which case we'd recommend the Hyundai Venue. It offers much of what the Seltos offers, including reliability, features and high-quality interior - albeit in a smaller form factor at a more affordable price. If reliability trumps all else, consider a Maruti Suzuki compact SUV like the Brezza or the Fronx.

I booked for the Renault R-pass but planning to cancel due to the rear comfort. But litttle confused between Kia Seltos HTK(O) 1.5 NA Petrol MT and Renault Duster Techno 1.3 Turbo Petrol MT as they both are similar price around 17.5 lakhs on road thought I need to spend some more on duster to add Leather seat cover, front sensor, spare wheel, etc. My usage will be mostly in City and sometimes on a family trip to Hill station or through Highway. I have test driven both, the duster felt more power and Kia Seltos was comfort. I m planning to buy this car on my office leased car option, so will be selling them after 4 years anyway. Help me clarify which one to buy. I m looking for a family car with good resale value after 4 years.

Since you already felt the Kia Seltos was more comfortable, we would recommend you go ahead with it, as it does have a more spacious and comfy rear seat experience. The Renault Duster offers a more engaging drive experience, and it excels on highways and twisty mountain ghats; however, since your driving is mostly in the city, this is not something that you would be able to appreciate. The Seltos is easy to drive in traffic with light controls and good all-around visibility. Furthermore, Kia’s service network is wider, and previous generation Seltos' have good resale value.

Hello, I am planning to buy the Hyundai Creta EV, but am confused between the Creta EV and the Creta automatic petrol. I drive around 30 km daily and intend to keep the car for the next 6-8 years. Pick the Hyundai Creta 1.5 petrol IVT, which is essentially a CVT automatic for 30 km a day and a 6-8 year plan, it suits you better than the Creta EV, given your clear worry about resale. Hyundai’s petrol Creta is a proven car with wide service support across India, and its resale is stronger and more predictable than most EVs today. You also already have a Kia Seltos diesel for long trips, so the Creta can focus on city duty without you having to think about charging or planning routes.One thing to be aware of: the IVT is tuned for smoothness, not speed, so fast highway overtakes with a full load need a bit more planning. Also, your fuel cost in the city will be higher than that of an EV.Consider the Creta EV only if you have hassle-free home charging and mainly city use, and you are okay with the risk of lower resale. You can choose the Kia Seltos diesel; it is the newer of the two cars you’ve shortlisted and a significant improvement over its predecessor. The car’s size has grown, offering more space inside, and the cabin is thoroughly modern too. There is also a notable improvement in ride quality, but not at the expense of handling.In everyday use, the diesel has enough performance, though it isn’t very punchy on the highway. Safety has also improved, with the Seltos scoring five stars in the Bharat NCAP crash tests.One thing to be aware of: Kia’s service network isn’t as widespread as Hyundai’s, so if that is a concern, then consider the Hyundai Creta instead.If you can drive both back-to-back on the same rough patch of road and try a tight parking spot, you will quickly feel which one suits you better.
