I'm a new driver on the road. Been driving a Celerio (second-hand) for the last 2 years in Bangalore. Looking for an automatic petrol car within a budget of ₹9.5 lakh. My priority is safety and ease of adapting to the new car. I am thinking of a Punch. Looking for your suggestion.
Yes, the Tata Punch Adventure AMT is an excellent option, given your requirements. It's tall with a high seating position, which gives you a commanding view out - great for a new driver, yet it's compact enough not to be intimidating around town. It will also feel like a good upgrade from your old Celerio.
Since safety is also a consideration for you, the Punch has been given a 5-star Bharat NCAP crash test rating and gets 6 airbags as standard, plus a good amount of standard safety equipment. If there's a potential drawback, it's that the Punch's 1.2 petrol engine and AMT gearbox aren't the smoothest combination, and as a new driver, the jerkiness at low speeds is something you will have to learn to drive around.
Also consider the Hyundai Exter SX Smart AMT and the Nissan Magnite Kuro AMT as well, as both have smoother powertrains than the Punch.

I want to buy an automatic car mainly for city use with a budget of around ₹10 lakh. I shortlisted the Maruti Suzuki Ignis, but I have heard rumours that its production might be stopped. Is there any update on this, and what are some good alternatives to the Ignis?
The Maruti Suzuki Ignis is still in production. It is worth noting that the Ignis is a bit long in the tooth now, and sales are very low, especially so by Maruti standards. Thus, there could be a possibility of it being discontinued or updated. In any case, being a Maruti model that has been on sale for a while now, you would still be able to get it serviced for a fairly long period of time.
If you are, however, worried about this, you could consider the Hyundai Exter and Tata Punch, which are two cars that will offer similar benefits of being compact, high-riding and available with an automatic transmission.

Being a first-time buyer, I have a budget of around 10 lakh and am confused between the Hyundai Exter and the new Tata Punch. Can you recommend a good buy for mostly city rides with occasional (2-3 times a month) highway cruises? I am a new driver.
The Hyundai Exter's 1.2-litre four-cylinder engine feels far smoother, more powerful and more refined than the Tata's three-cylinder unit. Moreover, the Exter's controls are lighter, and overall it feels like the more user-friendly car of the two, which, as a new driver, you are likely to appreciate.
The Tata Punch, on the other hand, has a more 'SUV-like' raised seating position, is easier to get in and out of, and its seats are broader too. Additionally, the Punch's audio system is far superior to the Exter's. Since your usage involves two-three long drives every month, we'd recommend the Punch for its excellent composure on the highway.

I am in Bangalore and planning to buy my first automatic car as a new driver, with a budget of ₹10-12 lakh. I am confused between the Baleno AMT, i20 iVT and Sonet. Earlier, I was thinking of buying the Punch, but due to service issues, I am not considering it. The Exter AMT also seems like a good option.
Given your requirements, you should consider the Hyundai i20 IVT. Unlike the Maruti Baleno and Hyundai Exter which get AMTs, the i20 offers a more seamless drive experience thanks to the CVT automatic, which is smooth and user-friendly. The Sonet, meanwhile, comes with a DCT automatic, which is more jerky in stop-and-go traffic than the CVT.
The Hyundai i20 IVT is powered by a refined 88hp, 1.2-litre petrol engine that has a claimed efficiency of 20kpl. This hatchback offers a spacious and comfortable cabin and comes with all the features expected in this class. Being a Hyundai car, the i20 will also be reliable and easy to maintain. Hyundai i20 IVT prices range from Rs 8.13 lakh to Rs 10.34 lakh (ex-showroom).

I use a 2020 manual Wagon R and have run it for more than 1 lakh km. Now I want to upgrade to an automatic car, but my budget is Rs 9 lakh, and the engine should be punchy.
The Skoda Kylaq would be a good option for you as it offers a peppy engine and a smooth torque converter gearbox. However, since you have a Rs 9 lakh budget, you would only be able to opt for the base variant, which is quite under-equipped.
Since you are coming from a Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, we assume you would want a few more creature comforts, thus consider the Hyundai Exter. The engine and gearbox will not feel as lively and smooth as on the Skoda, but it is fairly decent for everyday motoring, and at your budget, you would get a very well-equipped variant.

We have a Hyundai Grand i10 manual purchased in 2017, which my son currently drives. We now want to purchase an AMT car and are considering the Hyundai Exter, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, or any other option you may advise. Body strength, safety, and a comfortable AMT are our key priorities.
If safety is your top priority, then instead of the Hyundai Exter (which has not yet been crash-tested) and the Maruti Suzuki Baleno (which has received a 2-star GNCAP rating), we would suggest the recently facelifted Tata Punch. It has secured a 5-star BNCAP rating, giving it the added level of safety you are looking for.
The Tata Punch is also easy to drive, the AMT gearbox works well in the city, the ride quality is comfortable, and it feels confident at higher speeds.
On the downside, the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated engine lacks punch for highway use, and the rear seat is not the most spacious.

I want to buy my first car with a budget of up to ₹10 lakh. My daily commute is around 140 km. Which would be the best option considering fuel costs, comfort, and long-term reliability?
Since your daily running is very high, we would recommend you go for a diesel or CNG car. Do make sure, however, that there are easily accessible CNG pumps around your area. If you do opt for a CNG car, the Hyundai Exter would be a good option, as Hyundai cars are known for their reliability and longevity.
The Exter CNG uses twin CNG cylinders under the boot floor, instead of a single large one inside. Thus, you get a very usable cargo area. If, however, you prefer a diesel car, then consider the Tata Altroz, as it is the only diesel hatchback and offers good fuel efficiency.

Hi, Need to upgrade from my 16 year old Ritz which served decent but started giving frequent issues post 12 years and 100000 kms. Prefer to have automatic so that my wife a new learner too can drive when needed, with decent space for 4 Adults and 1 kid during outstation trips with well aged parents. I'm around 40+ now. Ease for getting in n out is a must especially for aged parents. However 80% of the time it be used for lone commuting to office and back max 12kms or less one-way in mumbai traffic. Don't fancy features other than adjustable headrests even for rear, decent AC, basic music system... Don't think I use anything more. Ps we used to love seating of ritz found its angles and width apt for senior citizens. Budget around 8 onroad mumbai. Kindly suggest.
Unfortunately, at your budget of Rs 8 lakh on road, few cars will feel like a significant upgrade to your Maruti Ritz, even though it is 12 years old. This is also because you are looking for an automatic, and while you are happy with having only basic features in your car, the automatic gearbox is usually tied to mid- to high-level variants in most vehicles. However, here are some options, like the Hyundai Exter and the recently facelifted Tata Punch that should meet your needs within your budget. Both also use a tall-boy design which allows for easy ingress and egress, and the Punch has the added advantage of doors that open a full 90 degrees, helping further.
However, of the two, we would recommend the Hyundai Exter, as it is slightly wider in the rear seat, and also because it has the smoother and more efficient petrol engine with the smoother AMT gearbox of the two.

What are my options if I wish to replace my 1.5-year-old Hyundai Exter with an EV? The car will be used sparingly and only in the city.
We're not sure if you are looking to upgrade or have a replacement EV similar in size. If it's the latter, the Tata Punch EV would be a good option for you. The electric Punch will soon be updated, and you can check this out.
If you are looking for something bigger, the MG Windsor would be a good pick, offering you more space inside than your Hyundai Exter.

I want to buy a petrol car below Rs 7-8 lakh for about 5,000 km of running per annum. Please suggest a model. I do not want to buy Maruti, MG, Mahindra, Honda, Nissan, Skoda, Volkswagen, Kia, or any Chinese-made car.
With Maruti out, you have limited options in this budget, and you will have to compromise on either space or features. Nevertheless, you can consider either the Tata Punch 1.2 Petrol or the Hyundai Exter 1.2 petrol AMT.
The Tata Punch was updated recently, so you get a fresh-looking car with updated interiors. You can opt for the Tata Punch Pure+ variant, which comes with an 8-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, cruise control, and more. It also offers a tough feel and has one of the better suspension setups in the segment. In case you want to choose automatic, opt for the Hyundai Exter. It has one of the smoothest AMTs and comes with more or less the same features as Punch.
