I have shortlisted the Mercedes AMG GLC 43 Coupe and the BMW M340i. My yearly driving will be about 8,000 km. I want a proper โwowโ factor in the car. Which would be the better buy?
The Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe AMG 43 is substantially more expensive than a BMW M340i, and it certainly delivers the 'wow' factor that you're looking for, in terms of its design both outside and inside. So there's no contest between the two. If you're comfortable spending around Rs 1.15 crore for a GLC Coupe, go for it.
On the other hand, while the BMW M340i won't 'wow' you in terms of its looks or interior like the AMG, its 3-litre six-cylinder turbo-petrol's stonking performance will surely leave you grinning, and for about Rs 30 lakh less than the GLC Coupe, it delivers unmatched value.

I am planning to buy a luxury SUV, and my budget is between Rs 1.4 and 1.6 crore. I am mainly confused between the Range Rover Sport, Mercedes GLS, and BMW X7. Which one would be the best choice?

While all three SUVs are highly capable and deliver the luxury and performance youโd expect at this price point, the Range Rover Sport stands apart in a few key areas. Hi, I would like your advice based on my usage. I want to upgrade my garage to two city cars and one highway car. My current city car is a Swift diesel AMT with a usage of 1,200 km per month, and my highway car is a Kia Seltos with a usage of 1,000 km per month. I now want to replace both cars and get two EVs for city use, namely the Tiago EV and the Sierra EV. For highway use, I am looking at the BMW M340i because it has adaptive suspension. Do you think it is comfortable for long highway journeys? Please suggest suitable cars for my usage.
The Tiago EV is a sensible, affordable city runabout that works very well for errands and short urban commutes, and thatโs exactly how we would recommend you use it. The Tata Sierra EV, meanwhile, is still some time away โ launch is expected in 2026 โ but on paper it promises a strong combination of space, range and features, and should be priced competitively when it arrives. However, itโs too early to comment on how it will drive as we havenโt driven the production car yet.โ
The BMW M340i is a very quick, engaging sports sedan that can double up as a daily driver, and the adaptive suspension has definitely improved its usability. That said, it still feels a bit firm and always โon its toesโ, so it isnโt the most relaxed choice if you prioritise long, laid-back highway cruising.
One of our favourite sporty everyday sedans in this space is the Audi S5; it offers strong performance but with a more compliant ride and more easy-going manners, so itโs worth considering as your highway car.

Iโm considering whether to buy a used car or a new car after driving my current vehicle for 10 more years. Iโm thinking about getting a BMW or Audi hatchback in good condition. What are your thoughts?
You will not find many used BMW and Audi cars (hatchbacks) in India because very few were ever sold.
BMW did offer the 1 Series hatchback for a short time, but the numbers were still limited.
Instead, itโs better to explore their small SUVs like the Audi Q3 and the BMW X1. If you are open to Mercedes-Benz cars, you can also check the A-Class or B-Class hatchbacks, though these too are rare, or consider the Mercedes GLA.
When buying a premium used car, though, make sure you buy from the brand itself, as they all have an approved used program. You can also buy one from a very reputable reseller, and if things go wrong, it can be very expensive to fix.

I am currently driving a Jeep Compass and am planning to upgrade. I have shortlisted the BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC, or should I wait for the upcoming Audi Q5? Please share your feedback.
In this list, the Mercedes-Benz GLC would be a good choice as it has a strong engine, premium interiors and good ride comfort as well. The BMW X3 is roomy, but lacks the luxury appeal of the GLC's interior, and the GLC also holds its value better.
The Audi Q5 will be the newest car once it launches in 2026, but there is no official confirmation on the same. Currently, the GLC is your best bet.

I am looking to replace my 2021 Tucson. My current usage is not more than 1,000 km a month, mostly on the highway. My budget is โน50-60 lakh, and I have shortlisted the Mercedes-Benz GLA, BMW X1, and Audi Q3. Looking for your guidance.
We'd recommend you narrow down your options to the Mercedes GLA 220d and Q3, both of which have strong powertrains and are a touch nicer to drive than the BMW X1.
Between the two, the Mercedes-Benz car has a more well-appointed cabin and a spacious interior. The Audi Q3's cabin is also high on quality, although it lacks flair. Where the Q3 shines is the ride comfort. Go for the Mercedes if you are willing to pick a diesel engine - you will appreciate the 220d's effortless performance on the highway.
However, if you need a petrol, the Audi Q3's turbo petrol is far superior to what Mercedes and BMW offer, hence it gets our vote.

I own a 2017 BMW X1 and want to upgrade. My budget is up to โน90 lakh and I prefer a petrol vehicle. Daily commute is about 30 km. Iโll drive the car myself on long weekend trips and use a chauffeur for daily driving. Please advise on the best options.
Since you are used to a BMW, you won't find the same driving pleasure in other brands.
The BMW 330Li M Sport Pro is a superb option that has an excellent balance of driving dynamics with rear seat comfort. The long-wheelbase allows it to have a roomy rear seat, and the 3.0-litre straight-six engine is powerful and exciting as well. If you don't want an SUV, there is no better option than the 330Li.

If you don't mind the large size on the road, go for the Mercedes Benz GLS. Apart from having the benefit of a usable set of third-row seats, its large size gives it excellent road presence. Apart from that, it's an excellent luxury vehicle, with powerful and effortless six-cylinder engines and a sumptuously appointed cabin, with loads of high-tech features.
However, in case you enjoy driving and will be driving the SUV yourself, you should go for the BMW X5.

Hello, Autocar. I am currently in the market to buy a new car and am thoroughly confused between the M340i and the new 5 Series. I will be upgrading from a Mercedes-Benz C 300d AMG Line diesel. While the M340i has the beastly B58, the thing holding me back is that it doesn't feel like a segment upgrade compared to my current C-Class. With the 5 Series, the size and opulence make it feel like a solid upgrade, but it has pretty much the same power as my C and lesser torque. Thanks.

Iโm already a BMW fan and have a 520d and an X1 in my garage. I was planning to buy the BMW iX LWB, but a friend mentioned an upcoming BMW iX3 on a completely new EV platform. Since I want an EV this time, do you know when the iX3 might launch in India? Would it be worth waiting for it instead of buying the iX LWB now?
As your friend has rightly guided you, the BMW iX3 is an all-new electric vehicle from the brand's new Neue Klasse line. It's built on a new 800V EV architecture and also debuts a new look and interior layout for BMW. Highlights inside include a 17.9-inch touchscreen and a full-width display under the windscreen that doubles as the instrument cluster.
However, the BMW iX3 will only come to India in early 2027. It is understood that the iX3 for India will be a long-wheelbase model. Also note, the iX3 is essentially larger than the iX1 LWB and will correspondingly be pricier. We expect a price in the region of Rs 80-90 lakh (estimated, ex-showroom) when the model goes on sale.
