Aston Martin DBX Expert Review

The Aston Martin DBX marks the brand’s first SUV, blending classic Aston design with SUV proportions. At over 5 metres long and nearly 2 metres wide, it has serious road presence, enhanced by large 22-inch wheels and a bold, upsized grille. 
It retains signature Aston cues such as the long bonnet, tight roofline and distinctive ducktail spoiler. Clever aero details, including a flat undertray and airflow management around the rear, highlight the engineering depth beneath the styling. 
Built to combine luxury GT comfort with SUV usability, it offers generous ground clearance of up to 235mm, making it more adaptable to Indian conditions than typical Aston Martin sports cars.

Step inside and the DBX feels like a luxury leather boutique on wheels. Premium materials dominate, with meticulous craftsmanship across surfaces. Getting in and out is easier than in other Astons due to the elevated ride height, while the unique swan doors add a touch of theatre. 
Space is a key strength. It comfortably seats five, with a usable rear bench and a large boot, making it far more practical than any Aston coupe or GT. The cabin balances sportiness with everyday usability, positioning the DBX as both a luxury cruiser and a family-friendly SUV.

At its heart is a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 sourced from Mercedes-AMG, producing 550hp and 700Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic, supported by an active centre transfer case and electronic differential that can even send all torque to the rear wheels when needed. 
Performance is strong and effortless, It is quick, refined and capable of serious pace, yet feels composed and controlled in everyday driving. Refinement is generally high, with the drivetrain offering smooth power delivery, although the gearbox can occasionally feel less than perfectly calibrated.

Efficiency is not a priority here. The DBX delivers a claimed figure of roughly 4.5kmpl, which is expected for a large, high-performance V8 SUV.

Ride and handling strike a unique balance. The DBX is surprisingly nimble for its size, with strong body control and confidence-inspiring dynamics. Advanced systems such as torque vectoring and adaptive suspension help mask its mass, allowing it to corner with composure. At the same time, it retains enough compliance to handle uneven roads, making it suitable for Indian conditions.
While it is not as plush as some luxury SUVs, it delivers a more engaging drive, staying true to Aston Martin’s performance-focused DNA.
 

The DBX comes equipped with a wide range of luxury and convenience features, including advanced infotainment sourced from Mercedes-Benz, premium audio systems and multiple comfort functions. Safety systems include electronic stability aids, advanced drivetrain control systems and high-performance braking hardware. The technology package is comprehensive, though the infotainment interface feels slightly dated compared to newer rivals.

Priced at around Rs 4 crore and above, the DBX sits firmly in the ultra-luxury SUV segment. It offers something unique: a genuine Aston Martin driving experience combined with SUV practicality. While alternatives may offer more outright luxury or sharper performance, few match its blend of style, character and everyday usability.
For buyers seeking a distinctive luxury SUV with sports car DNA, the DBX makes a strong case as a true “Bond-style” all-rounder.
