Exterior images of the new Volkswagen ID Polo EV have surfaced online ahead of its global debut in May. The entry-level VW EV was earlier shown in near-production form at the 2025 Munich Motor Show under heavy camouflage, making this the first clear look at what the final version could look like. Volkswagen currently has no EV in its India line-up, and it remains to be seen whether the Polo nameplate will return here, albeit in a zero-emission guise.

Going by the images, the Polo EV closely resembles the 2023 Volkswagen ID 2all concept, even down to the wheel design. There are a some styling changes, though, including slight tweaks to the sealed-off section between the slim headlights, and the front bumper's grille. Furthermore, the ORVMs now get a more conventional design, while the C-pillar-mounted rear door handles from the prototype have been retained.

An image of the sportier GTI version have also surfaced, and it stands out with a sportier front bumper, featuring a honeycomb mesh grille. Vertical DRLs, a red stripe running under the illuminated VW roundel and 'GTI' badging further set it apart from the standard model. Volkswagen has already confirmed that the ID Polo measures 4,053mm in length, 1,816mm in width and 1,530mm in height, with a 2,600mm wheelbase. For context, the India-spec Volkswagen Polo that was on sale until April 2022 was under four metres long, unlike the larger European version.

Interior

Volkswagen had revealed the near-production-ready Polo EV's interior earlier in January. It gets a 10.25-inch digital driver's display and a 13-inch touchscreen. Volkswagen has also added customisable display themes, including a retro mode inspired by the Golf Mk1, with an analogue-style instrument display and a tape deck-style animation on the touchscreen.

Notably, plenty of physical buttons have been provided inside the cabin, which is not common for EVs, and this shift is part of Volkswagen's new "Pure Positive" design language. As design chief Andreas Mindt puts it, "Clear physical buttons provide stability and trust." The cabin also gets a rotary dial on the centre console for volume control and switching tracks or radio stations, and the new steering wheel features several physical buttons for media and driver assistance functions. In fact, other upcoming vehicles of the all-electric ID range will also come with physical controls.

A front-wheel drive layout, two battery options - 38kWh and 56kWh (with a range of up to 451km) - and standard DC charging at speeds of up to 125kW are also among the confirmed specs, alongside 435 litres of boot space. DC fast charging will be standard, supporting speeds of up to 125kW. The GTI version will produce 226hp.
