Renault’s upcoming compact SUV could carry the Bridger name into production, which was previewed recently by a concept bearing the same name. The production version is expected to launch before the end of 2027, with India set to be its first market.
The SUV will later be exported to other developing markets such as Africa and the Middle East. Renault has indicated that the model will be offered with petrol, hybrid and electric powertrains, although availability will vary by market.

Bridger name fits Renault’s global naming strategy

Renault’s head of naming strategy, Sylvia dos Santos, suggested that the Bridger name could be retained for the production model.
“With Renault Bridger, we are adding to our family of names based on English words. The name is part of the same approach as the name of Renault Duster. It’s a powerful, robust and versatile name and opens a new page in our international offensive,” she said.
Concept previews rugged sub-4m SUV

The Bridger concept previews a rugged compact SUV with a boxy design and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel. The spare wheel is not included in the vehicle’s overall length, allowing the SUV to remain under four metres. Mahindra’s Vision S concept also features a similar tailgate-mounted spare wheel design.
Measuring under four metres in length, it will enter the sub-4m SUV segment, where it is expected to rival models such as the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Tata Nexon and Skoda Kylaq.
The Bridger concept’s boot space is rated at 400 litres, 10 litres more than the Kia Syros, which currently has the largest boot in the compact SUV segment.
