Keeping up with its recent trend of teasing future vehicles with new product launches, Japanese marque Toyota has officially previewed two more vehicles at the Land Cruiser Prado launch event, or more precisely, their silhouettes. This comes soon after Toyota had earlier announced the luxury-focused Century SUV at the launch of the Alphard and Vellfire MPVs.

    1. One of the two could be the Compact Cruiser concept EV
    2. Second teaser previews an SUV based on the BZ large SUV concept
    3. Toyota Century SUV global debut this year

Mystery Toyota SUVs: what could they be?

Towards the end of the Land Cruiser Prado unveil event, Toyota teased two SUV silhouettes, and judging by the shape, we think one of it could be the Compact Cruiser EV – an off-road focused all-electric SUV inspired by the FJ Cruiser. The Compact Cruiser EV was showcased in late 2021 as a concept, and it had also won the Car Design Award in 2022 against the likes of the Audi Skysphere, Porsche Mission R and the Volvo Concept Recharge, among others.

The preview could also signal the transition of Toyota's FJ Cruiser to an all-electric drivetrain. The FJ Cruiser was discontinued recently in 2022 ending over a decade-long produciton run. Whilst there has been no information about the other vehicle, it could be an SUV based on the Toyota's all-electric BZ platform.

    Potentially three new Toyota SUVs?

Besides the two silhouettes, Toyota had also previewed a Century SUV at the Vellfire's debut event. The SUV will be Century's second offering after the sedan, which has been around since 1967. The Century SUV is slated to debut in late 2023 and could rival the likes of Bentley Bentayga.

Toyota car, SUV line-up in India in 2023

Toyota recently launched the third generation of its luxury Vellfire MPV for the Indian market. It joins the Hilux, Fortuner, Innova Hycross and the Camry in their line-up. With their global partnership with Suzuki, Toyota has also bolstered its range in the Indian market with vehicles such as the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, developed in collaboration with Maruti Suzuki. Toyota also has the Glanza, which is essentially a rebadged Maruti Suzuki Baleno.
