Toyota has launched the next-gen Vellfire MPV in India at Rs 1.20 crore (ex-showroom, India). A sister product to the more luxuriously appointed Lexus LM, the new Vellfire is offered in two variants – Hi and VIP – where the latter gets the Executive Lounge package.

The carmaker has launched the Vellfire sooner than the anticipated timeline of September 2023. In June, some Toyota dealers unofficially opened bookings for the MPV.

    New Toyota Vellfire design

The new Vellfire retains a similar look compared to the outgoing model. The Toyota logo takes centre stage in the humongous six-slat grille, which is flanked by split headlamps. The lower part of the headlamps house the LED daytime running lamps, while U-shaped chrome strip runs across the bumper connecting the two headlamps.

In profile, the MPV’s glasshouse is now a single unit with a prominent kink and blacked-out pillars with a chrome outline. It gets a very familiar-looking, V-shaped tail-lamp enclosure with generous chrome trim, prominent Vellfire badging, and a big Toyota logo at the centre.

New Toyota Vellfire interior and features

The new Vellfire gets a simple-looking dashboard with fewer buttons than the outgoing model as the majority of the functions are now integrated into the large, 14-inch touchscreen. There's a new and more comfortable seat design, a large overhead console for the passengers for controlling various vehicle functions, multiple AC vents and newly designed pull-down sun shades.

The top-spec Vellfire VIP trim is offered with the Executive Lounge package, and comes with two captain’s chairs for the second row with retractable tables along with heating and ventilation. There’s also a new detachable control panel which allows passengers to adjust media and climate settings and sunshades. Other features include a heads-up display, wireless charger, ottoman for second-row seats (Hi trim), and an eight-way power adjustable driver seat. Toyota has also added more than 60 connected features.

In terms of safety features, the Vellfire MPV gets the Toyota Safety Sense ADAS system that comes with a pre-collision safety system, lane trace assist, adaptive cruise control and blind spot monitor. Furthermore, it also gets six airbags, stability control, park assist, hill assist control and more.

New Toyota Vellfire platform, dimensions and powertrain

The new Vellfire sits on Toyota’s modular TNGA-K platform and is now lighter than the outgoing model. It measures 4,995mm in length, 1,850mm in width and 1,950mm in height with a wheelbase of 3,000mm. Compared to the outgoing model, the width and the wheelbase have remained the same, while the length and height have increased by 60mm and 50mm, respectively.

The new Vellfire is powered by a 193hp, 240Nm, 2.5-litre, four-cylinder petrol-hybrid powertrain mated to an e-CVT. Toyota claims the Vellfire will return a fuel efficiency of 19.28kpl.

    New Toyota Vellfire rivals

Until Lexus launches the LM MPV in India, the Vellfire sits in its own niche segment of luxury MPVs with no direct rivals.
