Tata has brought out a new special-edition Zest, named the Premio Edition at Rs 7.53 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The edition has been launched to celebrate 85,000 units of the Zest sold and slots under the top-spec XT trim in the compact sedan’s range.

Only available with the 75hp, diesel engine, the Premio Edition features black-finished outside mirrors, boot lid, hood strip, and roof. A black boot spoiler is an optional extra. Two new exterior paint shades are also on offer – Titanium Grey and Platinum Silver. The 15-inch wheels come with silver-finished wheel covers.

The cabin gets a new seat fabric with contrast stitching and Premio branding and a tan-finish on the centre of the dashboard.

Like the Zest XMS, the 1.3-litre Fiat-sourced diesel engine is mated only to a five-speed manual gearbox and produces the same 75hp and 190Nm of peak torque.

In terms of equipment, the kit on offer is on par with the XM variant, including the touchscreen infotainment system from Harman, with navigation.

The mid-spec trim has been introduced to help the Zest better compete against the likes of the VW Ameo, Honda Amaze and Maruti’s Dzire in the competitive compact sedan segment.

The Zest is an ageing model, especially in comparison to its more affordable sibling, the Tigor, but is unlikely to be replaced anytime soon.

However, Tata will reveal a new mid-size sedan to rival the Honda City at the upcoming Geneva motor show.
